LOWRY, William , was b. Northumberland, Eng., and d. in 1877, age 84. He was educated in London, and was a clerk in the Bank of England. He came to Canada and Guelph in 1834, and taught school in Guelph for a number of years. He bought a farm on the Waterloo road, where he lived for some years, his sons working it. He was a Conservative in politics. He m. Miss Price, of London Eng. Of a family of fifteen, there survive: Reginald, who lives in Guelph; Mrs. Wm. Jackson, Wawanesa, Man.; Mrs. Silas Haight, loves near Oshawa and Parker.

Parker, whose portrait appears on another page of this work, was b. London and came to Guelph in 1834, age 7. He was educated in Guelph, and rented a farm near the O. A. C. for a year or two. In March, 1850 he removed to Maryborough, and purchased 200 acres, on lot 11, con. 13, Later he sold the east half to Arts, and lived on the west half about four years. About 1854, when the present gravel road was cut out, he traded his property and secured a square 100 acres, north half of part of lots 10 and 11, con. 13, where he built an hotel, which he ran for seven years, doing well, as Minto, Howick and other townships were being settled, and all teaming was done along the gravel road, He then moved to West half lot 12, con. 12, and cleared all but about twelve acres of it. He sold his farm, and retired to Moorefield in 1900. He celebrated his golden wedding in 1898, an d. in 1904, age 77. About 1858 he was in the Township Council for four or five years. He was Collector for one year, and then Assessor for thirteen years. In religion he was a Methodist, and in politics a Conservative. He m. Rebecca Walker, who survives him in Moorefield, at the age of 77. Issue: William, Clifton, d., Man.; Mrs. John Smith, Portage la Prairie; Mrs. John Davidson, Man.; Mrs. Alexander Davidson, Moorefield; and Mrs. Thomas McKee, Maryborough.

William was b. Guelph, and came to Maryborough with his father, where he helped to clear the west half of lot 12, con. 12. In 1886 he bought a part of the G. C. Moore estate, where he farmed for five years, after which he worked at the trade of stonemason for some years. In 1903 he bought his present farm of 50 acres, north-west part of lot 14, con. 13, where he carries on mixed farming. He assessed the township in 1892, the year after his father retired form office. In religion he is a Methodist, and in politics a Conservative. He m. Julia Wooddisse.
