WHARTON, Robert , (d.), b. in Kent, Eng,m 1813, d. 1884. He m. Eliza McNally, also deceased. This worthy pioneer came to Guelph Village in 1832, and worked for the late David Allan for seven years, during which time he accumulated sufficient means to start on his own account. In 1839, he purchased 100 acres, lot 2, con. 1, Eramosa, and set. in the bush, clearing his farm, and becoming one of the most respected and prosperous farmers in the section. He was a consistent member of the English church. Of his large family only two sons have remained in Eramosa, Alexander, and Hugh, who own and farm the old homestead in conjunction. They make a specialty of thoroughbred cattle and Oxforddown sheep, and are among the substantial and respected citizens of the township.

Hugh, m. Mary Elizabeth Richardson. Issue: Harvey, Ada, Jane, and Thomas, all living in Eramosa.
