SYNNOTT, John
(d.), b. Co. Kilkenny, Ire., 1807; d. in Eramosa, 1863. He first came to
Boston , Mass., where he m. Catherine Hennesy, and came to Canada and set. in
Eramosa in 1842, purchasing 160 acres, lot 18, con. 6. The family were educated
in Ireland. One of the late John Synnott's brothers was a Catholic priest, and
stationed in Connecticut for many years. He was a very able man. Father John,
the youngest son of the late John Synnott also became a Catholic priest, and
was stationed in Connecticut with his uncle until his death.
The late John Synnott had the following issue: James, Richard, Edmund, John Jr.; and Mrs. Peter Fitzpatrick. James is retired at Dundas. Richard, b. 1842, came to Eramosa in infancy with his parents and has since resided there. He owns 212 acres of land in a high state of cultivation and containing up-to-date improvements, He is one of the most respected men in the section. He m. Margaret Fitzpatrick. Issue: Edmund, Mrs. James Handlin (d.), Maggie, John, Lizzie and Mary. Of this family: Edmund m. Elizabeth Gibbons. He owns 100 acres, lot 21, con. 7. John m. Sarah Coulson, and owns 100 acres, lot 18, con. 6. Like their forebears, they are prosperous citizens. From: Historical Atlas of the County of Wellington, Ontario.
