SHEICK, Jacob
(d.), was b. in Germany, in 1799, and d. in 1882, age 83. He came to Canada in
1841, settling first, at Wellesley, Waterloo Co. Before he came to Canada, he
served 7 years in the German Army, taking the place of a wealthy young man, and
receiving a $500 bounty. He was a Lutheran, and a Liberal. Of his children,
George Sheick, was the only one to come to Wellington Co. George, was b. in
1832, in Germany, and came to Canada at the age of 9. He learned the stone
mason's trade, which he worked at for many years in Waterloo Co., as well as
Peel. In 1865, he purchased the farm of 100 acres, lot 4, con. 9, in Peel Tp.
In 1855, he m. Catharine Hatt, Issue: William, in Dakota; Henry, Drayton;
Jacob, George, Jr., farmer in Peel Tp., Lizzie, John, with his father; Albert,
Man.; Mrs. Joseph Day, Peel, and Mrs. David A. Kills, Peel. Jacob, owns 84
acres, lot 1, con. 10 , Peel. He m. Miss Hawkins, a dau. of the pioneer family
of that name. He has been very successful, and acquired his property by his own
efforts. George, owns 100 acres, lot 4, con. 9, of Peel Tp. He m. Annie Halls.
Issue: Mary , Alma, and William.
