JACKSON, William . (d.), was b. Yorkshire, Eng., and d. in 1875, age 66. He was a shoemaker by trade, and came to Quebec. He soon went into farming in Chingacousy, and in about 1846, set. in Peel. He owns 300 acres on con. 16 and 17. He was a dealer in horses, and also practiced as a horse doctor among the farmers. He gave his family a fair education. He m. Mary McTaggart, b. Ireland, who d. in 1898, age 82. Issue: Miles, Mrs. James Sampson, set. Fergus; John, Mary, and Mrs. Walter Dean, William, unm., and Elizabeth, in Fergus. Richard, Isabella, and George, on the old homestead; Cecilia, Nichol Tp.; Mrs. George Cocollough, set. in Garafraxa, and Robert.

Miles, m. Jennie Archibald, and set. in Arthur, where he is now living retired. Issue: Mary, Bella, Rachael, John M. and William G.

John is living in Fergus retired. His first wife was Jane Nesbitt. Issue: William J. Later he m. Miss Richmond.

Richard is a farmer in Peel Tp. and owns 137 acres. He m. Jane Ann Maggwood. Issue: Harry L., Norman, Stella, Wesley J., Walter George and May.

Robert was b. in Peel Tp. He owns 137 acres, lot 22, con. 16, of Peel, and 640 acres in the North-West. He carries on mixed farming, and is the owner of "Hedgecroft," a fine farm of 127 acres. He breeds Durham cattle, registered Leicester sheep, Yorkshire hogs, and Clydesdale horses, all of which he has for sale. He is also a large feeder of cattle for export, and has acted as judge of stock at various fairs. He is highly respected, and has acquired all of his property by his own industry and business ability. In religion he is a Methodist and in politics a Liberal. He m. Martha Jane Wright, dau. of John Wright, of Mt. Forest. Issue: Ella M., Maggie E., George S., Mary G., Robert S., Lawrence W., Martha J., Florence E., and Henrietta A.

The old homestead of the Jackson family was on lot 23, con. 16. There were six brothers in the Jackson family, and they owned 1,200 acres in Peel Tp.
