COLLINGRIDGE, John H.
, b. Hardwick, Eng., 1844, came to Canada with his parents in 1848. On Mar.
14, 1878, he came to West Garafraxa and purchased 100 acres, lot 18, con. 2,
from his wife's father. He raises cattle, hogs and grain, and owns one of the
most fertile farms in the district. He is in every respect a self-made man,
and is well liked and respected by his friends and neighbors. Mr.
Collingridge has served in the Township Council of West Garafraxa for two
years, and has been nominated for Reeve and Deputy Reeve, but declined. In
religion he is a Congregationalist, and a Conservative in politics. In 1873
he m. Margaret, dau. of Ralph Morden, who was a grandson of Ralph Morden,
brother of the U. E. L. pioneer, Henry Morden. Mrs. Collingridge's mother was
Mary Ann Vrooman, dau. of the pioneer, Capt. Vrooman. Issue: Mrs. John
Saunders, Luther; William, Cleveland; Mrs. Robert Howes, West Garfaraxa;
Lewis, New Dundee; Mrs. John Clement, homestead; and John, Arthur Village. A
brother Henry Collingridge is on lot 24, con. 2, West Garafraxa.
