MIHM, Adam
(d.), was b. in Germany, and d. in 1888, age 69. He was a stonemason by trade,
and came to Canada in 1848 with his young wife. They were seventeen weeks in
crossing the ocean from Bremen to New York, in a sailing vessel. He went to
Buffalo, where he worked at his trade for four years, and then came to Waterloo
Co. and set. working at his trade and farming until his death. He raised and
educated a family, and became an influential and respected citizen. He
frequently acted as arbitrator in controversies of his neighbors, who had a
great confidence in his judgments as well as integrity, He m. Mary Latch in
Germany, who d. in 1892, age 84. They had a family of nine children, of whom
only Ferdinand G. came to Wellington Co.
Ferdinand G. was b. in Buffalo in 1845, and was four years old when the family came of Waterloo Co. He learned the carriage maker's trade in Canistota. In 1876 he came to Stirton in Peel Tp., and started a business, which he has successfully conducted ever since, carrying on waggon making and blacksmithing on an extensive scale. He is a Roman Catholic, and was a member of the building committee of the Roman Catholic church at Drayton, and is a Liberal in politics. He m. Barbara Reinhardt. Issue; Mrs. James Mayne, Drayton; John, with his father; Elsie, Ellen, Arthur, a merchant ; Francis, Sask.; Dora, Emma and Vera. From: Historical Atlas of the County of Wellington, Ontario.
