MOORE, Robert
(d.), was b. Londonderry Co., Ire., 1839, d. 1904, age 65. He came to Canada
and Mornington Tp., where he bought his farm in 1868. He then went to
Bridgewater U.S., and worked at brickmaking until he made $700, and then
returned to set. on his farm, only to find that his American money demanded a
discount of $280 to pass. He paid for his farm, and a yoke of oxen, after which
he had $5 left. He cleared his farm of 75 acres, and at the time of his death
left and estate of $17,000, as well as an enviable reputation. He was a
Presbyterian, and took an active interest in church work. In politics, he was a
strong Conservative. In 1872, he m. Eleanor Armstrong, dau. of William
Armstrong, Maryborough, who d. in 1905, age 63. Issue: William H., Mrs. S. J.
Kincade, Mornington; Millie, at home; George, Mornington; James, on the
homestead, and Susanah, at home. William H., b. Mornington Tp., in 1874, now
owns and operates the old Armstrong homestead, the west half of lot 4, con. 1,
Maryborough, He is a stock dealer and butcher, killing for the beef ring in
summer. He is a genial and popular man, much respected in the district. In
1893, he m. Eliza Welsh, dau. of John Welsh of Mornington.
