HAMBLY, William (d.), was b. Cornwall, Eng., and d. in 1864, age 77. The Hambleys were farmers in England. He came to Canada in 1842, and set. in W. Gwillimbury, where he cleared his farm of 200 acres. He was very active in church work, and was class leader, Trustee and Steward in the Methodist church, in politics he was a Liberal. He m. Ann Sturtridge, who d. 1872, age 83. Issue: John (d.), set. in York Co.; William S., Thomas, Mrs. Seth Rogers, set. in York Co.; Mrs. James Best, Minto; James U.S.; Reuben (d.); Samuel, in Dorchester, and Joseph on the homestead in York Co.; all of whom were b. in England.

William S., b. Cornwall, Eng., 1817, d. 1871. He came to Canada with his parents in 1842, and in 1847 came to Drayton. In his early career he worked for $120 per year, saving the $100. He became a leading and successful citizen of Drayton, where he was a Magistrate, Reeve, and Steward and Trustee in the Methodist church. He was a large giver to the church. In fact, he was foremost in everything for the good of the community, and often acted as executor and arbitrator in settling the affairs of his neighbors. He cleared his farm, which was all bush. In years when the grain failed, Mr. Hambly supplied his grain for seed to poor people, in preference to those that were better off. He m. Nancy Tindall, in 1847, who d. in 1905, age 78. He came with his wife and set. permanently in Drayton in 1848. Issue: Maria A., the first child b. in Drayton; Mrs.

(Rev.) William Johnston, Electa, Mrs. (Rev. ) Henry Berry, Milton (d.); Reuben R., Mrs. J. S. Patterson, set. Montana; Mrs. Edward Emes Dales, set. Drayton; Weston, set. Sault Ste. Marie.

Reuben R., has been postmaster of Drayton since 1898. He m. Lizzie Roberts. Issue: Milton.

Thomas, b. Cornwall Eng., 1819, came with his parents to York Co., in 1842, and to Peel in 1848. He built a shanty on the east half of lot 7, con. 10, and commenced the active life of home-making in the bush, and cleared his farm. There were no roads, and they followed blazed paths, with oxen attached to jumpers. He started in life with little money, and became the owner of 350 acres of land. In 1892 he retired, to Drayton. He never sought or held municipal office, but has been active in church work, and has been Steward and Trustee of the Meth. church. He m. Jane Mills in 1850, who d. in 1884, age 52. Issue; Mrs. Simon Fawcett, William T., Daniel F., Samuel, Jennie, John, Mrs. Oscar Hodson and Emma.

William T., son of Thomas Hambly m. Roxey Dales. He farms 240 acres of land on lot 3, con. 10, of Peel Tp., carrying on mixed farming and breeds Leicester sheep. Issue: Vernor, William, Edward, Gladys, Lucy, Harry, Morton and Lillian. Daniel F., m. Nanny Udy, and lives in Drayton.

Samuel went to Golden B.C. in 1881, and is now Sheriff.

John m. Latta Hodson. He is a very successful hardware merchant in Barrie.
