FLETT, John
(d.), b. Orkney Isles, 1834, d. 1879, age 52. He came to Canada
in 1854, and learned the carpenter's trade in Hamilton, where he worked for
four years. He then moved to Mount Forest, where he continued to work at his
trade until his death, which was caused by falling from a building. Mr.
Flett was a hard working, industrious and sober man, and gave all of the
members of his family a good, High School education. Great credit is also
due to Mrs. Flett, for the manner in which she brought up her family. She
still survives, and is active at the age of 74. Mr. Flett was very active in
the affairs of the Presbyterian church, and was a Liberal in politics. He m.

(d. 37) ; Jennie and Flora, at home; Donald, Mount Forest, and James in
Quebec.
Donald, b. 1868. He has a florist business in Mount Forest, which he established in 1891. This is now one of the best establishments of its kind west of Toronto. Mr. Flett has made every dollar by his own efforts. His greenhouse contains thirty thousand feet of glass, and is still enlarging it every year. He keeps a waggon on the road supplying the neighbouring towns with flowers and garden truck. He is a successful and much respected citizen, a Presbyterian, and a Liberal. In 1905, he m. Alice Boyd.
