HAMBLY, Thomas , was b. in Nova Scotia in 1819, and d. in 1893, age 74. The founder of this family was one Hambly, who came from Cornwall, Eng., to the U.S. He was an educated man and a surveyor. His son Allen Hambly was an U. E. Loyalist, and came to Nova Scotia jut after the revolutionary war, and it was there that Thomas Hambly was b. In 1829, the mother with her three sons and seven or eight daughters, left Nova Scotia and came to York Co., near Toronto.

Thomas was 10 years old at that time. Later he was a blacksmith at Weston, and opened a shop in Nobleton, York Co., where he remained until 1855, when he came to Peel Tp., and bought lot 18, con. 6, a gore of about 40 acres, and started a shop there. He retired about 1883. He was a strong church worker and temperance advocate, being Sunday School Supt., for over thirty years. class leader and local preacher. He was a School Trustee for years, but would not hold other municipal office. He was a Methodist, and politically a Baldwin Reformer. He m. Ellen Robinson. Issue: Mrs. George Fisher, Durham; Mrs. John Crozier (d.), Elora; John , Edwin (d. infancy); Lydia, in Hamilton; James, farmer in California; Martha, living with John; Wellington, farmer in California.

John, b. in Nobleton, King Tp., was 3 years old when he came to Peel Tp. in 1855. He was raised in Peel Tp., and farmed there until 1893, when he came to Maryborough Tp., and rented his present farm on 150 acres, lot 8, con. 10, buying it in 1900. He has been Trustee S.S. No. 5, for three years, but has held no other municipal office. He is a Methodist, and a Reformer. He m. Hannah Potter, of the pioneer Peel Tp. family in 1897. Issue: Harvey, marine engineer, running from Monterey to San Francisco, Cal.; Clara (d.16), Elwood in Palmerston; Miles, and Lloyd at home; Mr. Hambly's sister, Martha, keeps house for him.
