MURRAY, Peter Gray
(d.), b. Inverness, Scot., 1802, d. 1865, age 63. In 1836, he was induced to
come to Canada by his brother John, who had come some years previously. John
lost a leg at the battle of Waterloo, and his descendants live at Churchville,
Ont. The late Peter Gray, was educated for the ministry, and was school
teacher. He set. first, in Trafalgar, where he took up 50 acres of land, which
he afterwards sold out, and came to Erin in 1847, where he purchased 100 acres,
lot 3, con. 3. He did a great deal of writing in his early days, drawing wills,
agreements, etc. for the neighborhood. He was held in high esteem, and was an
Elder of the Presbyterian church of Acton for years. He was a Liberal in
politics. In 1822 he m. Ann Sutherland, who d. in 1883, age 84. Issue: John,

(d.) and William (d young).
John , b. in 1833, started farming in 1863, and rented a farm near Ospringe, Previously with his brother, he operated the first threshing machine in Erin., built by Lawrence Bros., Palermo. He afterwards rented other farms in Erin and Nassagewaya, and then purchased the farm on con. 6, Nassagewaya, which he still owns. He has been a successful farmer. He m. Betsey Swackhammer. Issue: James A., and William A. Andrew B., b. 1840, purchased in 1883 he farm on lot 1, con. 2, where he has been very successful. He is a breeder of thoroughbred Polled Angus cattle, roadsters and carriage horses, with which he has taken prizes at various fairs. He is one of the leading men of the township, and was a member of the Council for five years. In politics he is a Liberal. In 1865 he m. Amelia Ryder. Issue: Jessie , Peter A., Thomas H., George W., Edwin, John A., Mrs. Edward Kingsbury, and Mrs. Fred Denny, in Erin. Peter A., resides in Esquesing. In 1903 he m. Edith Denny. Thomas H. m.
