RICHARDSON, Thomas
(d.), b. Roxburghshire, Scot., 1804; d. 1892. The late
Thomas Richardson was a soldier, and is mentioned in the general history of
West Garafraxa as soldier Thomas Richardson, one of the earliest settlers. In
the English army he was attached to the Royal Horse Artillery, and received
his discharge in 1846, while stationed at Woolwich, and came to America the
same year. He drew a pension up to the time of his death in consideration of
his 23 years of service. He bought the west half of lot 4, con. 3, where he
set. in 1847, and in 1854 bought the 100 acres, now owned and occupied by his
son, T.C. Richardson, the west half of lot 3, con. 3. The last 13 years of
the late Thomas Richardson life, were spent in retirement at Fergus. He was a
Methodist, and a Liberal. He m. Ann Coffy in 1829. Mr. and Mrs. Richardson
had their photographs taken on their 63rd wedding day. Mr. Richardson d.
about 1892, and his wife the previous year, both buried in Belsyde Cemetery,
Fergus. Of the family left by this pioneer couple, Agnes, is set. in the old
town residence in Fergus; William, on the old homestead; John, in the State
of Washington, U.S.A., and T.C. Richardson, the oldest son, on the 100 acres
to the south of the old homestead, and Mrs. George Hay in Elora.
Thomas C. Richardson, Esq. Has served a number of years in the West Garafraxa Township Council, and for the past twenty-five years as been Justice of the Peace, and was recently re-appointed by the Whitney Government. His wife, was a Miss Buckland, dau. of an old pioneer family of West Garafraxa.
