McHARDY, James
, b. Toronto, 1835. Mr. McHardy moved to Nichol Tp., with his parents, who
started pioneer life, taking up a bush farm, where he remained with his parents
until 25 years of age, when he started for himself in Kepel Tp. He remained
there for fifteen years, until 1872, then sold it and bought his present
property of 200 acres, lot 11, con 10, West Luther. Very little of this land
was cleared at the time. Mr. McHardy finished the clearing, principally by his
own efforts, with the help of the family, and as a result of their industry the
property is now valued at $7,000. Mr. McHardy is a Baptist, and a Liberal. In
1870 he m. Barbara Hutcheon. Issue: Margaret, at home; Mrs. Samuel Jackson,
Luther; Mrs. Thompson, U.S.; Agnes at the store; Mrs. D. Keast, East Luther;
John, on the homestead; Albert, in Luther; and David. Of these David owns and
runs a store, which he has just started at Monck, where he is also Postmaster.
