CLARK, Samuel, Sr. , b. in Scot., 1823, d. 1904, age 82. He came to Canada in 1824, with his father, and farmed near the city of Quebec, where his father died. He farmed on 400 acres, near Quebec, until 1866, when he sold his farm and moved to Howick Tp., Huron Co., where he purchased 100 acres. He was a very industrious man, and retired in 1893 to Harriston, where he spent the rest of his days. He was a successful man, and owned 400 acres at the time of his death. He was a Presbyterian and a Reformer, taking a great interest in, and being an active worker for his party. He m.. Mary McCarter, in the Province of Quebec. Mrs. Clark came from Ireland with her parents in 1824, and d. in 1903, age 81. Issue: John, d.; James, Hariston; Margaret, d.; Mrs. John Lucas d. 1896; Mrs. Andrew Fisher, Minto; Samuel, Harriston; John, Man.; William P., Mrs. A. Parr. d.; Mrs. Wm. Ross, Minto, and Mrs. John Lavery, d.

James, m. Christina Winters. He was a successful farmer, and is now retired at Harriston.

Samuel m. Mary Lavery. Issue: Janet, and Mary. He was a successful farmer in Minto, and is retired in Harriston.

John m. Isabella Taylor. Issue: five children. He is a large land owner and farmer Dear Birtle, Man.

William P., b. in the Province of Quebec, and was five years old, when he came to Howick, in 1866, with his father. He was raised and educated in Howick. In 1889, he purchased 100 acres, lot 37, con. 9, of Minto. In 1897, he rented his farm in Minto, (which he sold four years later), and bought the west half of lot 9, con. 11, Maryborough, where he farmed until 1904, when he sold the place for $8,000, and built a fine brick house in Moorefield, where he has since, represented the McCormack Mfg. Co. He is a Methodist, and a Liberal, and was a School Trustee in Minto. He m. Mary, dau. of James Minthorn, pioneer of Maryborough. Issue: Leslie R.
