QUINN, Edward
(d.), b. in Co, Limerick, Ire., in 1822, d. 1883, age 61. He came too Canada
in 1846, and set. in Uxbridge Tp., and in 1850 he came to Peel and purchased
lot 8, con. 8, 100 acres. He was a member of the Roman Catholic church, and in
politics a Liberal. He m. Bridget Pardy in 1847, who is still living age 97.
Issue: John, James, Edward, and Patrick (d. young). The late Edward Quinn came
to Canada without means, and worked for farmers in Uxbridge Tp. for four years,
earning sufficient money to purchase his Peel farm in 1850. He made permanent
settlement in 1851, cleared the farm and lived on it until his death. He was a
very successful man and left a nice property. During his first years in Peel
Tp. he obtained all of his provisions from Elora, where he made periodical
trips through the woods with an ox team attached to jumpers, and in each year,
in order to obtain ready money, cradled during the harvest for the farmer in
the townships further south.
James was b. in Ontario Co. He was raised in Peel Tp., where he has always resided. He is married, and owns 150 acres, lot 9, con. 9, Peel Tp., where he carries on mixed farming. His farm is in an excellent state of cultivation, and he is one of the enterprising citizens of the townships. From: Historical Atlas of the County of Wellington, Ontario.
