JOHNSTON, George
(d.), was b. Co. Waterford, Ire., 1820, and d. 1895, age 75. He was a clerk in
Dublin, and came to Canada in 1837, with his brother, Harry Alcock Johnston.
They kept a store in Toronto for two years, but George did not like inside
work, and started to farm on the third line of Chinguacousy Tp. Harry A. later
secured a position in the Toronto Postoffice, and was after that moved to
London, where he was head clerk for thirty-five years, and was pensioned for
long service. George sold his farm and bought 100 acres, lot 2, con. 3, Caledon
Tp., which he traded in 1860 for 200 acres, lot 2, con. 10, Maryborough, and
$2,000. He farmed lot 2 until about 1877, when he retired to Palmerston, where
he died. He was a member of the English church, and a strong Conservative in
politics. He was a well-educated man, and was School Trustee several times. He

Aeneas, b. 1852, in Caledon Tp., was eight years old when he came to Maryborough with his parents. He helped clear the farm, on which only an acre had been cleared when his father bought it. He now owns 100 acres, the east half of the homestead, lot 2, con. 10. He carries on mixed farming, and is raising some first class draught horses, for which he gets good prices. He never sought municipal office; is a Presbyterian and a strong Conservative. He m. Margaret A. McLaughlin, of Darlington Tp. Issue: Mrs. W. H.
