REYNOLDS, William
(d.). This old pioneer, who was one of the first actual settlers in Minto ,
was b. in Ireland in 1828. He received a good education in Ireland, and came to
Canada when about eighteen years old, finding his way up to Minto. At that time
half a dozen families composed the population of the west side of Arthur, and
one or two on the Minto side. Young Reynolds came without money, but with an
ambition to succeed. He put up with all of the privations of bush life, cleared
his farm, and became an influential and prosperous citizen of the community,
and had the respect and confidence of all. He was a member of the Methodist
church, and in politics was a Conservative. At his death in 1902 he left 335
acres of land, besides other property. He m. Jane Bell, of the old pioneer Bell
family. Issue: Emma, Eliza, Wesley, Henry, Kate, Martha and Frank.
