TAYLOR, John,
(d.), was b. Perthshire, Scot., 1817, and d. 1894, age 77. He came to
Canada in 1840, and worked in Galt for four years, saving enough money to buy a
bush farm for $200, in Mornington Tp. He cleared his farm, and used to carry
his provisions in the early days twenty-two miles from Waterloo. He was a very
industrious, hardworking man, and never sought or held municipal office. In
1886 he sold the farm to his son William, and retired from active business. He
was a Presbyterian and a Liberal. He m. Ellen Tennant, who d. 1880, age 64.
Issue: Thomas, California; Mrs. John Campbell and Mrs. Alexander Campbell,
Wingham, and William.
William, b. 1861, was resided in Mornington Tp., where he attended school. In 1886 he bought the homestead from his father, and in 1888 he rented the farm, and until 1903 was in the implement agency business, first for Massey-Harris Co., and later for the Deering Co. In 1901 he sold the homestead, and in 1903 purchased 2371/2 acres, lots 18 and 19, con. 4, Maryborough, upon which he has since resided. His active business life has prevented him from holding any municipal offices. He is a Presbyterian, and a strong worker in the Liberal party, He m. Rebecca Doherty. Issue: William V. L.; Wilbert L.
