GILMORE, John (d.), was b. Co. Cavan, Ire., and d. age 60. He came to Canada and Arthur Tp. with a large family and small means, and took up 272 acres of bush land, lot 28, con. 5. He experienced all the hardships of pioneer life, carrying his provisions from Fergus, He was a Trustee and a Steward of the Methodist church, and in politics a Conservative. He m. Mary Kidd, who d. in 1887, age 85. Issue: Mrs. John Gilmore, Arthur Tp.; Mrs. Robert Dobson, Mich.; James, Man.; Joseph, Toronto; John and H. H., in N.W.T.

John owns and resides on a portion of the homestead. He is one of the most successful farmers in the county, and is a well-to-do and much-respected citizen. He has been a hard worker and educated his family well. In religion he is a Methodist, and in politics a Conservative. In 1871 he m. Maria Denzel. Issue: W. J., Man.; James H., Peel Tp.; Mrs. W. J. Workman, Maryborough, and Wesley at home.
