My ggr grandfather ,Samuel,arrived in Steubenville in 1832 with his new bride,Nancy MADDEN HEWITT. They were married in Ulster,Antrim County,Northern Ireland.Samuel was 21 and Nancy was 24.One of his two sisters ,Margaret,accompanied the two to Steubenville. Margaret was 10 yrs of age.Samuel engaged in several occupations,one of them was owner of a grocert store on South Fourth St.Subsequently he owned a building known as "Union Factory" located at head of Market St,where he engaged in the manufacture of jeans.He was called "King Sam" by those who knew him. He is shown in the 1840 and 1850 census.While living in Steubenville ,he and Nancy raised seven children. His sister ,Margaret,married Edmund CROSLEYON 24 Feb.1848. Geo. Buchanan,M.G.was the minister presiding and Robert Gregg sworn as to ages of the bride and groom. Sometime around 1853 the family decidrd to go to California by wagon train.The children ranged in age from 4yrs to 19 yrs of age .The trip across the plains took 7 months to complete.The trail ended for them in Farmington about 4 miles east of Stockton, CA.

The family: Charles Albert HUNT (b: 7 aug 1852 in Smithfield) m: Alice Clark MCCORMICK (b:24 May 1854 in Antrim, OH?)children: Robert Hunt b:22 Apr 1877, Iona Myrtle HUNT b: 23 Nov 1878, Audrey Hunt b: Oct 1880, Ida Mossalee HUNT b:6 Jun 1883, Vesta Hunt b: 11 Mar 1889, Erma Gladys HUNT b: 8 Aug 1891 Charles Albert HUNT'S parents were James Harrison HUNT from VA m: Mary SYLIMAN (sp?) in PA...she was b: PA and they had Their other two children in PA (Mattie HUNT and Ida HUNT) Hoping this info will match someone in this area. Only two children came from this whole family...the others were childless. Charles two children, Iona had one child and Ida had one surviving child.

I was raised in Richmond and as far as I know , I have a lot of relatives still in the general area. My fathers name was James O'DELL and his mother Grace Hearn WILLIAMS (steubenville). I was always told that that we have many other family roots in the area. How can I find out for sure?.

I am interested in 3 men found on the 1850 Fed Pop Cen of Ohio. PROVINCE John, Island Creek, Jefferson County Thornton, Milton Tp., Jackson County Uriah, Deerfield Tp., Portage County I understand that John and Uriah lived across the line from each other. I noticed that in 1860 all lived in Gallia County. I am trying to find out if the three of them are related in some way.

Nancy AKINS (m) Thomas MCCONNELL 18/05/1816 in Jefferson, OH; Dorothy AKIN(m) Isaac MILLER 04/05/1812 Jefferson,OH; Ellinor AKIN (m) Wm. McINTIRE 20/12/ 1815; and a Martha AKIN (m) Samuel RICHARDS 05/07/1813. There was also a Wm. EAKINS from Steubenville, Jefferson, Oh in the 1820 Census. There was a biographical sketch on Charles AKEN, grandson of James in "20th Century History of Steubenville and Jefferson County, Ohio, Doyle, 1910, p. 1098 wherein this grandson advised James had a brother who was scalped by the Red Men in the area. Wonder if that bro was William. Also there was a Cora Blanche AKEN b. 1808, d. 1879 buried in Mound Cemetary, Tiltonsville, Jefferson, OH. Would love to hear from anyone that might have information related to these people. Believe them all to be related to each other somehow. Thanks

HOST HOSS The Hoss (several members also used the name Host)family, mother Nancy, children James, William, Eliza, Samuel, Harvey, and John migrated from PA to Jefferson county in early 1800s. All of the children were married in Jefferson county from 1825-1831 and all are included in the genealogical record "Early Marriages in Jefferson County". The family removed to Belmont and Harrison counties in the 1830s.

I am researching Levi MCFARLAND (MCFARLIN) born about 1814 in OH. He was living in Jefferson County, OH in 1839 when he married Elizabeth DEVORE born in OH. In 1840 he was still living in Island Creek Township, Jefferson County with a female between 20 and 30 (Elizabeth) and one Female under 5 (Hattie born in March in that year). There were other MCFARLANDs living near him in Island Creek. They are William and Beaty. There were also another DEVORE living in Island Creek by the name of Daniel DEVOUR and ten years before a WILLIAM DEVORE. Any information on MCFARLAND and DEVORE would be appreciated.

Just found out that my ROBINSONs (Margaret b.abt 1870, Emma b.1875, Elizabeth b.1877, and Oron Newton b.1880) were born in Irondale, Jefferson Co. They were the children of James ROBINSON(b.Nov. 1845) and Sarah (b. Sep. 1846). They later moved to Beaver Co. PA. Does anyone know anything about this family?
