KANIPE, KNIPE, MCQUEEN, SNYDER posted by Jeff McQueen on Wednesday, August 13, 1997

James & William H. MCQUEEN - Fulton County, Ohio I was hoping you could help me. I found my great-greatgrandfather, William H. MCQUEEN in the Clinton Township Fulton County census of 1860. He was living with John SNYDER and his family. William is shown as a 6-year-old and there is a 4-year-old listed under William, which may have been his sister. All I know now is that William H. MCQUEEN married Roxie KNIPE and that he can be found again on the 1880 census of Springfield Township, Williams County, Ohio (Page 663A - of the microfilm rolls). I suspect William's father's name is James MCQUEEN, because I found a 27-year-old labourer named James MCQUEEN on the Clinton Township, Fulton County census for 1850, which was only 4 years before William H. MCQUEEN was born. I believe I can prove they are related if I can get a marriage record of William H. MCQUEEN and Roxie KNIPE (KANIPE?) or a marriage record for James MCQUEEN. I'm not sure where James MCQUEEN disappeared to between 1850 & 1860. I'm also trying to find an index to the 1870 index so that I can determine which township and county William H. MCQUEEN lived in that year. Can you help?

BALEY, BRALEY, MCQUEEN posted by Jeff McQueen on Wednesday, August 13, 1997

Subject: BALEY . . . BRALEY? I'm trying to get information on James MCQUEEN, who is shown as a 27-year-old labourer in the 1850 census of Clinton Township, Fulton County. This census record shows that James is living with Horace and Aloira BALEY, but it is hard to read and could be BRALEY? Do you have info on these people? They have three kids: Celia (1), Lucinda (3) and George (6). I'm trying to get info on James MCQUEEN.

MCQUEEN, SNYDER posted by Jeff McQueen on Saturday, August 16, 1997

Subject: Parents of William H. MCQUEEN. I found the marriage entry for William H. MCQUEEN, who shows up on the 1860 census of Fulton County, Clinton Township, Ohio. The marriage entry indicates he was married May 5, 1878 in Williams County, Ohio. However, I am pretty sure he was born in Fulton County. The probate records for Fulton go back to 1853 and William was born in 1855, therefore I suspect whatever happened to William's parents and their names should show up in probate records. William was either abandoned or orphaned and shows up as a 6-year-old living with John SNYDER and family in the 1860 Clinton Township, Fulton County Census. Do you have access to the probate records, or know where they are kept? I would like to determine the names of William H. MCQUEEN'S parents.

I would like to find any record of Phylander NOBLE. I have some land records in Monroe, MI and Lucas Co, OH with his name, and his wife Mindwell. I cannot find him again in Lucas County after 1830's, but he is alone in 1840 in Henry County. I have been having a difficult time tracing this family, and any help you may have would be appreciated.

COLLINS, SARGEANT, SARGENT, SERGEANT, SERGENT posted by Joanne Fairman on Wednesday, September 10, 1997

I am related to some of Fulton Counties early settlers...Ephraim SARGENT, his son Ephraim SARGENT, Jr, and grandsons Charles, James W., Oscar M., John M., Courtland, and three granddaughters. They purchased land in Gorham township in the late 1830's. (They also purchased land in Lenawee and Hillsdale Counties in Michigan) Between them, they lived in these three counties and are buried in all three. Most of the information I have comes from the History of Fulton County, pages 418, 535, 536, and 698, along with some info from the 1850 and 1860 Gorham twp. Federal Census. Beyond that, I have no other information. I would appreciate ANY information you might have have time to look up. The two Ephraim's and their wives are my direct line and I am anxious to have knowledge of their lives in this area. Thanks so much!

HABLUETZEL, KUELLING, LEU, PFUND, POUND, WANNER posted by John W. Grubbs on Wednesday, September 17, 1997

I have been pursuing information about my Swiss forbears by means of Family Histories (Familienscheine) that are available through the Registry (Zivilstandsamt) of the city in which the relative lived. With the help of a cousin in Kanton Schaffhausen, I have located Familienscheine for my Great Grandfather Heinrich KUELLING, for his father Adrian KUELLING, for my Great Grandmother, Anna HABLUETZEL'S father Nikolaus HABLUETZEL, and for my Great-Great Grandfather Michael LEU. However, so far I have not been able to find Familienscheine in Kanton Schaffhausen for my Great-Great Grandfather Melchior PFUND and his wife Anna WANNER, who came to Ohio by 20 Aug 1850, the date on which their first son, George PFUND was born. Melchior first appears in the 1860 census of Fulton County, Franklin Township, P.O. Tedrow. In the 1870 census he is listed as Milton POUND, and he is buried in Smith Cemetery, Franklin Township, Fulton County, Ohio as Melchior POUND, along with his wife, Anna POUND. As far as I know, based upon their gravestones, the dates of Melchior and Anna PFUND are: Melchior PFUND (POUND) b. about 16 May 1826, Switzerland d. 12 Jun 1894, Fulton County, Franklin Township, Ohio Buried in Smith Cemetery Anna Wanner PFUND (POUND) b. about 10 Jul 1825, Switzerland d. 10 Jul 1893, Fulton County, Franklin Township, Ohio Buried in Smith Cemetery. My question is this: Do you know someone who would be willing to search for Melchior PFUND or POUND'S will and death certificate in the Fulton County Courthouse. I would also be interested in any information regarding Anna WANNER. I would be willing to pay for this service. My hope is, if the will and death certificate could be located (as Jim Wyse was able to locate such information for Michel LEU, Sr.), there might be a clue as to what city Melchior came from. Most of the census information suggests that the couple came from Switzerland, but some family members thought they came from Germany, which I suppose is not impossible. I would be most grateful if you could advise me on the matter of a professional search by a genealogist who would carry out the search and make copies for me of anything that was found for a reasonable fee.

MCQUEEN, SNYDER posted by Jeff McQueen on Saturday, September 20, 1997

I've discovered that there is a John SNYDER on Page 666 of the Fulton County, Clinton Township 1850 Census (according to the index). James MCQUEEN is found on Page 664 of Fulton County, Clinton Township. I'd like to find out if this is the same John SNYDER that William H. MCQUEEN was living with in the 1860 Census of Fulton County, Clinton Township. Can someone tell me who John SNYDER is living with in the 1850 Census. The 1860 Census shows John (51-years-old) living with his wife Elizabeth (48-years-old). John and Elizabeth have the following children living with them in 1860: 1) John - 21 2) Caroline - 18 3) Sarah - 13 4) Peter - 11 5) William H. MCQUEEN - 6 6) Adeline - 4 The 1850 Census record for John SNYDER may give clues to finally prove James is the father of William H. MCQUEEN. Page 666 and 664 are also close which means James and John SNYDER were neighbors.

SALISBURY posted by Phil Salisbury on Sunday, September 21, 1997

I wish to pursure the ancestors of the father of Charles SALISBURY. The father is listed in the Ohio 1860 Census as Elias SALISBURY, age 46, farmer, born in Ohio. The listing in the 1860 Ohio Census showed (on pages 60/61) the family for Charles Elias SALISBURY (my grandfather) in Pike Township. SALISBURY - all born in Ohio Elias 46 farmer Sally A. 39 Samuel 19 Phinneas 16 David 14 Mathias 12 Alfred 10 Franklin 8 Charles 5 (my grandfather) Horace 3 Jonathan 1 Suzanne found one reference to "Elias SALISBURY." In the Fulton County Recorder's Office, she found this: v.17, p 568 of deeds--Elias SALISBURY of Parke County, Indiana sold lots 58, 59, 60, 61, 62, 63, 64, 65, 71, 72, and 73 in Delta's Schlappi Addition to Samuel Miller for $350.00." The date on the date was April 24, 1865. Elias' wife signed as Sallie A. SALISBURY. This gave a clue that Elias moved to Parke County, Indiana sometime between the 1860 census and April 24, 1865. I checked with two people in Parke County, IN with no luck. My goal is to trace the arrival of this SALISBURY group from Europe. Can you be of any help?

TERPENING posted by Milt Van Duser on Monday, September 22, 1997

I am looking for Stella TERPENING, born Nov-1878 in Ohio, in the 1880 Ohio census. From an 1880 Ohio Census index published by the Ohio Genealogical Society there were Terpenings in Fulton, Wiliams, and Cuyahoga Counties and Ward 5 in Toledo, Ohio. I would like to know any detail about her parents or siblings, if you find her.

COONROD, ONWELLER posted by Bruce Coonrod on Sunday, September 28, 1997

I've been unable to trace my 2g-grandfather back any farther than Fulton County. Nathan COONROD, b. 1828 in New York, married Sarah ONWELLER on Jan. 1, 1857, in Lenawee County, MI, though both were from Fulton County. Sarah died in 1865 and is buried in the Ottokee Cemetery, near many Shadles. Nathan remarried and homesteaded in Kansas.
