He went to Camp Dennison while O.

Second Lieutenant. He served with gallantry, but was captured, and,
with many others, consigned to the Southern prisons, ending up at
last with the noted Libby. While here, he, in conjunction with others,
made their escape by tunneling under the street. Capt. Gallaher

also one of the few to reach home. He served with his regiment until

"I am working hard to find information on the family of
Bryant Curl and his daughter Morning,
who married Dennis Galloway.
Bryant served as a Private in Co, D 5th Ohio USCT and is buried
in the Old Quaker
Cemetery in Roachester. Dennis Galloway
served with Bryant in the same unit. I have census
records for them and I find it curious that I find no Bio's on any
of the family members because they are the only people of color
I see page after page in the records. Bryant's wife was Lucetta
Edwards and they married in 1847. Morning
and Dennis married shortly after the War was over
and they all lived in Warren, Champaign and I think Greene counties."

Peter A Greene, Franklin (Ohio)
Chronicle, October 16, 1902.
" Peter A. Greene, son of Edward and Lydia Greene, deceased,
was born on a farm in Franklin township, Warren Co., O, on July
1st, 1845, departing this life on Sep. 30, 1902. Aged fifty-seven
years and three months.
"He never married. He spent his boyhood at the place of his
birth until the breaking out of the Civil War when he answered his
country's call, enlisting in Co. A., 79th O. V. I., being mustered
into service on Aug. 23rd, 1862. He served until the close of that
great strife, being mustered out at Washington City at the close
of the great review of '65.
"He was the youngest of five children, a brother, Joseph, preceding
him, leaving a brother and two loving sisters to mourn their loss.
Like every true soldier death's battle found him prepared, forgiving
and forgetting all of life's harsh sufferings, with nothing but
hopes and best wishes for those remaining, peacefully prepared to
meet his God and those dear ones gone before, with a last word "Mother."

killed near Atlanta, Ga., by the guerrillas, while carrying dispatches
from Col. Smith, at Chattahootchie River Railroad bridge, to Col.
Dustin, at Atlanta; his body was found twice pierced with bullets;
there were also two bayonet thrusts in the breast; it was thought,
judging from the character of the wounds that he received, that
the brutal wretches bayoneted him after he had fallen; either of
the gun-shot wounds, or both, of themselves, might not have proved
fatal; as a friend, he was all that could be desired - frank, truthful
and good; as a companion, pleasant, amiable and attractive; as a
soldier, true as steel and brave to a fault; he was buried on a
high hill within the fortification near the river"
