Nathaniel was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for recapturing the Regimental flag at Petersburg at the age of 15. Wounds received while doing so resulted in the amputation of his arm. Nathan Wood | At the beginning of the war he enlisted in the 12th OVI and then the 13th OVC. At Princeton, Va, he was taken prisoner ands spent three months in Libby prison. He was exchanged and entered the 1st U. S. Cavalry and served to near the close of the war, when he was severely wounded in the arm. |
