GROVES posted by Ladd G. Frary on Sunday, July 22, 2001

I am looking for information on family of Alpheus GROVES who apparently was a resident of the Findley area of Hancock Co., Ohio prior to 1852 when eldest son (Harrison Wheeler) was born. Was married to a Susan ? Moved to Preemption, Illinois after 1852. Alpheus probably had ties to the Findlay area after moving to Ohio. He subscribed to the local paper for a number of years.

GRIFFITH, JONES, STATLER, WILLIAMS posted by Eugene Williams, Jr. on Sunday, August 5, 2001

Born Fostoria, Hancock Co, Ohio 12 June 1943. Parents both deceased raised in Shandon (formerly known as Paddys' Run), Butler County, Ohio since 1946. Surnames address Butler, Putnam, Allen, Hancock, and Hamilton Counties for the last 200 years. Got a lot of info, but unclear on other stuff. Surnames are WILLIAMS, JONES, STATLER, GRIFFITHS (all definitely in Allen/Putnam/Hancock counties for extended period of time. STATLER line proven in Hancock Cty area and biographied by cousin up in Hancock Cty area. Trying to tie in gen lines to Gomer/Fostoria area to Shandon (Butler Co) prior to the 2003 celebration. Am involved in the Butler County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society. Know that the Welsh ancestors settled the two villages back around 1800/1805, but have no trail to follow on WILLIAMS line, except for name "Woodrow WILLIAMS" (an older cousin who died around 1992, before I could get sufficient info from him. Know he was a farmer, United Church of Christ (Congregational), my grandmothers' sisters' son. My parents are buried in Hancock Cty area, but it is the GRIFFITHs name that I think I am trying to tie into Gomer - Shandon - back to Wales. I even have the names of the Welsh settlements that the families came from. A lot of the residents of the Shandon area are descendents of the original settlers, so there is a lot of info that may be useful to both of us in the future, if others are trying to figure out where their Welsh ancestors traveled to get to the Hancock Cty area.

CROMLEY posted by Barry Cromley on Sunday, September 9, 2001

I am searching for CROMLEY's in Hancock County, focusing primarily on the 1800's and their relationship to the Pickaway County CROMLEY's. The Hancock County CROMLEY's seem to have moved to Defiance County, and then the family center shifted to Paulding County as the elders passed away, which is where my hometown of Antwerp is located. My grandfather and g.grandfather are buried in Antwerp. I'm interested in any information and can share what I have gathered to date.
