I Know that my ancestor was Benjamin Carpenter (b.ca. 1750), who left Amherst Co., Virginia and went to Tennessee. He had a son named Hensley who was my grandfathers great grandfather. I am trying to find evidence that the Benjamin Carpenter in my line was a son of Joseph Carpenter who died in Botetourt Co. around 1780. Thanks! Alton

Searching for parents/ancestors of George RONK, b abt 1809, in Roanoke Co. area of what was then Botetourt Co., VA, d bef 1886; m Sarah --, b abt 1818, VA. Their children: James M., b abt 1836, VA.; Jacob Davis, b 21 Jun 1838, Putnam Co. area of what was then Kanawha Co. (then VA but now WV), d 15 Mar 1932, McClelland, Pottawattamie Co., IA; m on 16 Feb 1860 in Putnam Co., Angeline Elizabeth HIX, b 10 Mar 1844, VA, d 30 Sep 1917, Oakland, Pottawattamie Co., IA.; Henry S., b abt 1840, VA.; Andrew J., b 24 Aug 1842, VA, d 12 May 1914, Corning, Adams Co., IA; m on 10 Mar 1864, prob in IL, Rachel E. Briley, b 3 Jul 1843, d 27 Dec 1888, IA.; Samuel T., b abt 1844, VA.; John G., b abt 1846, VA.; and Robert C., b abt 1848, VA. In 1850 census, George is in Greenbrier Co. with his family. I know much of the descendancy of Jacob Davis and Andrew J., and would be happy to share this information. I am interested in the descendancies of the other children, but mainly in the parentage of Angeline HIX (is her father George HIX, of Kanawha/Fayette Co.?), and most especially of George RONK. It is my understanding that the RONKs of Botetourt should all be desc from George RANCK, b 1736, Lancaster Co., PA, d Mar 1812, Botetourt Co, m 1763 in Lancaster Co., Barbara --, b abt 1742, d 1 May 1815, Botetourt Co., who brought their six children to Botetourt Co. from Lancaster Co. probably around 1795? The children all seem to have m in Botetourt Co. and had children, and are mainly well researched, except John George RANCK/RONK, b 4 Nov 1774, d abt 1812. Does anyone recognize my George, or know more about John George, or know where Ronk/Rancks worshipped in the area, and whether there might be records I could find on such a church? Perhaps an area newspaper that might go back to the 1830s and earlier, hopefully to when George was born, around 1809? There are no birth cert this old and I don't know where or when George RONK died, so I can't try for a death cert. Very stumped on this one. Any help at all will be most welcome. Do you know where I could obtain info on parents of George Preston who married Jean Looney in Botetourt Co. in June 1787? Jean's parents were Joseph Looney & Jean Bowen. The Prestons moved to TN around 1796. They had 8 children. George is my g-g-g-g-grandfather. Abram Bogart was the adjoining neighbor and may have traveled to TN with them. Also a James Preston was here at the same time and history of Roane Co., TN suggests they were brothers. Any ideas from you would be appreciated.
