GRIFFITH -
Seeking information about William Griffith who settled in Bedford, Botetourt, and Greenbrier Counties before the American Revolution. I know he purchased land in Greenbrier County, Virginia in 1830. I am trying to find any connection between William Griffith and my great grandfather, John Griffith, who lived with his wife Rachel and owned property in Monroe County (which had been Greenbrier County prior to 1799) from 1830 to 1858. John and Rachel Griffith sold their property in Monroe County in 1858 and moved to Hurricane Station, Putnam County. Any information on William or John Griffith would be greatly appreciated.

BARLOW, DAVIDSON, HAYTHE, TYNES -
Am researching the family of Samuel and Frances Herndon (HAYTHE) TYNES residents of Botetourt County in the 1840 and 1850 Federal Census. Two of their children, Achilles James TYNES (born in Montgomery Co. VA, 29 Nov. 1833 and died Tazewell Co. VA 11 Nov. 1914) and Mary E. "Mollie" (TYNES) DAVIDSON (born in Montgomery Co. VA, 1 May 1837 and died in W.Va. 7 Sept. 1891) went on to earn their fame, for service to the C.S.A., as residents of Tazewell County. Samuel TYNES is believed to be the son of Obadiah and Edith (BARLOW) TYNES of Campbell and Halifax Counties, VA and grandson of Col. Samuel TYNES of Kershaw Co. S.C. who was noted for his Loyalist service during the Rev. War. Would like to exchange information with anyone interested in this family. Especially interested in any information which will prove that Obadiah and Edith TYNES died and were buried in Botetourt Co. VA. Cliff Ocheltree, New Orleans LA

ALDERSON, BRIANT, BRYANS, BRYANT, DODD -
Am looking forward to visiting Botetourt Co in September. I hope to learn more about the James BRYANS who married Rachael ALDERSON in Botetourt Co in 1815. Found a James Bryant on the 1784 B. Co Tax List, along with Curtis Alderson and William Dodd. Is anyone researching these names in Botetourt Co? I need to know if the James Bryant on the 1784 tax list is the father of my James T. Briant, b. 1790, VA. James T. Briant's wife was Rachael -- maybe Alderson -- need to ascertain that also. The Dodds and Bryants intermarried in DeKalb & Cannon Counties, TN in the early 1800s. Is the Dodd on the tax list one of the Dodds who went to Tennessee? Thanks! Cousin Mary Bryant Park

BASHAM, HOLSTEIN, HOLSTINE, HOLSTON, JAVINS, LOONEY, WILSON -
This is Billie again searching for her husband's Botetourt County ancestor. I'm still searching for the parents of Ellen-Ellenor WILSON who was b. ca. 1795-1800 and gave birth to an illegitimate son, William Holston- HOLSTINE- Holstein b. 1815, by Henry Holstine (b. ca. 1790) s/o Stephen and Jane (LOONEY). Henry HOLSTINE crossed the mountains to today's Boone County, West Virginia where he married Sarah Javins and lived the rest of his life. Ellenor and son, William, moved also to the same area where William became William Holstine Esq., a justice of the peace in both Boone and Kanawha Counties. Ellen-Ellenor lived with son William until her death bet 1850-60. William Holstine married Nancy Basham and left her a widow in 1873. Any clue will be appreciated. I think the Wilsons lived on Craig's Creek near the Holstine family.

McAFEE, McMICHAEL -
James (1707-1785) and Jane (McMichael) McAfee (1710-1783) immigrated from County Armagh, Ireland in the spring/fall of 1739, settling first in Lancaster Co., PA. By 1746 they had settled in the part of Augusta County, VA that would become Botetourt County. James Sr. had property near Catawba Creek; allied families in this region include the McCouns, McGees, Buchanans, Currys and Adams. Four McAfee sons- Robert, William, James, Jr., and John - played key roles in the surveying and settling of Mercer Co., KY in 1773-75. Jane McMichael McAfee moved with her sons, several daughters and their families to Mercer Co. in 1779. Interestingly, James McAfee Sr. stayed behind, supposedly with a daughter or niece. Would like to learn more about those who stayed behind in Botetourt Co. - exactly when in 1785 did James die? Where is he buried? Why didn't he make the trip to Mercer Co. with the rest of his family? Who stayed behind with him? My McAfee database is online at:
http://www.drizzle.com/~jtenlen/Register/RR_TOC.HTML   Would like to correspond with anyone else researching these McAfees.
