Two Benjamin Higginbothams died in Elbert county Georgia early
on - Benjamin Sr. in 1790, and his son Benjamin Jr. in 1809.
Benjamin Sr. was the son of Widow Higginbotham of Amherst
county, Virginia. His wife was Elizabeth Graves. Prior to 1787
he acquired a considerable land holding around Elberton,
Georgia, which was then located in the county of WILKES, and
later, in 1790, became ELBERT county.
"Anne Higginbotham" is referenced as a "Higginbotham" in
Benjamin Sr's will because her husband was "JACOB HIGGINBOTHAM",
who was also her first cousin. They had thirteen children, all
named in an affidavit executed in Elbert county by their son
John Higginbotham in 1855, stating that his father Jacob was a
Revolutionary Soldier - and that his mother was named "Anne
Higginbotham". If necessary I can cite concrete proof of this
family connection, but it is quite lengthy and requires a bit of
critical analysis. This analysis in fully covered on page 19 of
our book "Higginbotham Descendants of Moses and Frances (Kyle)".
Benjamin Higginbotham Jr., the son of Benjamin Sr., died in
Elbert county in 1809, and he also had a daughter named "Anna"
or Anne. We have found little information about her, but she was
obviously too young to have married William Kilgore in 1791,
since her parents were married in Amherst county, Virginia on
January 21, 1782. This "Anna" is also identified in the will as
a "Higginbotham", which suggests that she was young and still
single.
There is no evidence of another "Benjamin Higginbotham", old
enough to have been Anne Kilgore's father, ever living in Elbert
county, Georgia. As I previously suggested to Sam, there are
several subtle clues which suggest that Anne (Higginbotham)
Kilgore was the daughter of Joseph and Jean Higginbotham of
Richmond County, Georgia.
I offer this evaluation only as a guide to more productive
research on this family, and to avoid as much confusion as
possible for other researchers who may be working on these
families. Good luck in your research..................... Earl
Higginbotham

Thanks Bonnie, your website is very informative and certainly
gave me a place to start. I believe that Jacob Higginbotham and
Anne Higginbotham of Elbert Cty., GA were the parents of my Anne
that married William Kilgore.
