I am directly descended from John Baylor through his daughter
Lucy, who
married John Armistead. My line comes down from their son
Walker Keith
Armistead. I have seen those dates published before. I have
also seen
other DOB and DOD dates for that John Baylor, but I don't know
which are
correct.

"The Greys: a long and noble line, A biography of the family of
Lady Jane Grey
by Anthony Squires Price £14.95, 192pages, limpback. ISBN: 1
902685-10-5
The first history of the family of Lady Jane Grey nine day
Queen of England has just been published by niche history
publishers The Silk Press. This book is the result of years of
painstaking research by the author and follows the rise and fall
of one of Englandıs most important aristocratic families who
played a role in state affairs from the Middle Ages to the last
of the line Roger Grey, 10th Earl of Stamford who died in
1976.
It is a story of places particularly Bradgate House in
Leicestershire, Enville Hall in Staffordshire and Dunham Massey
in Cheshire and people, including the fated Lady Jane whose
reign as Queen of England lasted just nine days. It charts the
rise of the Grey dynasty during the Middle Ages, when Elizabeth
Woodville married firstly Sir John Grey, by whom she had two
sons and then, after his death, King Edward IV and in so doing
opened up opportunities for her Grey offspring.
It tells of Thomas, Lord Grey of Groby, the Regicide who signed
the death warrant of another king Charles I and was quoted
as saying he would execute the king himself rather than let him
escape justice. It describes the golden Georgian years, when the
family amassed huge wealth and lived in splendour in fabulous
country houses. And it tells of a glowing Victorian and
Edwardian twilight, when playboy lords spent more on the sport
of kings than in securing the future of the line.
It is a fascinating story of our country told through the lives
of one family, clearly and concisely written by Anthony Squires.
Anyone with a passion for English history and a local interest
in Leicestershire, Staffordshire and Cheshire will find this
book to be a valuable addition to their library.
Anthony Squires has written widely on landscape topics,
especially parks and gardens and their creators.
