David Morgan in Amite Co. Census in 1810; and in Pike Co. MS
1816 Pike Co. census. David Morgan volunteer in Marion Co. MS
and served in Capt. John Bond's Co., 13th Reg. Mississippi
Militia, War of 1812, under Col. George Nixon and Major McDuffy
as a private in mounted light horse company. Mary was granted
160 acres of land by act for War of 1812 MS.
The militia served with Gen. Andrew Jackson in the Creek War of
1814 fought in present day Alabama which formed the eastern
half of the original Mississippi Territory. They reassembled in
Dec 1814 and fought in the Battle of New Orleans, Jan 1815. A
DAVID MORGAN listed 13 REG'T (NIXON'S) MISSISSIPPI MILITIA.
"Residents of the SE MS Terr." lists David Morgan on the tax
rolls:
1812 Marion Co. MS: 160a 4th cl 2nd q Bogechitto, US 1 3 3.45
1813 Lawrence Co. MS:
1814 Lawrence Co. MS
1815 Marion Co. MS
1817 Pike Co. MS
Bogchitto (River?) is listed under the land description for all
of the above.
1820 Census Pike Co. MS (microcopy M33, Roll 58, page 31, line
3.)
David Morgan moved first to Amite County where he was living in
1810. His land in Amite county was assigned to Peter Quin on 18
Jul 1817. (S 1/2 of Sec. 20, T-3, R-7e).
Pike Co. was formed from Marion Co. in 1815, Marion from Amite,
Wayne & Franklin Cos in 1811. Early Inhabitants of the Natchez
Dist by Norman E. Gillis: p. 27 in 1810 list David, John &
William Morgan all in Amite.
In 1816: John Morgan in Franklin; William in Amite; and David in
Pike Cos.
In 1820 Census Pike Co. MS: David and Benjamin Morgan.
1831 tax List Pike Co. MS: David, John & Joseph Morgan.
1840 Pike Co.Census: Benj, James P., Samuel Morgan and William
Coney.
Est. notice of David Morgan; pub in Jackson MS Probate Court and
settled by Mary Morgan and William Coney in Oct 1839.
The additions to the Morgan file came from a booklet on the
Morgan family, The research was done by Marilyn Morgan of Amite,
LA, and Alberta Dunaway of Jayess, MS.

Our line of descendents for the Morgan surname begins with David
Morgan, born 1784, who was married to Mary Andrews. David came
to Mississippi from Georgia and settled in Pike County.
Eventually, our line migrated to Marion County where many are
now. We have 8 generations of Morgans.
