HEARN My Great Grandfather GEORGE W. HEARN, son of George Hearn and Margaret Ferguson, lived in Bruce County in the early 1880s. He may have been born somewhere in the Guelph area. He married my Great Grandmother Fanny Mogg 13 June 1884 in Southampton and was still residing there in 1889. They left there for Michigan only a few years before 1900. We know he had a brother Wesley Hearn married to Ann Jane McLure and a sister Jessie (Pheba) Hearn married in Bruce County to a John Blindauer. There were others but we have lost them. We know there is a James Hearn and an Archibald Hearn buried in the Sanctuary Park Cemetery, Port Elgin. Anyone having any information on any of these Hearn families please contact me? Thank you. RIACH Alexander and Mary. I am looking for information about this family who lived on a farm at Kinloss in 1871-1875. They were the family who looked after Margaret and Thomas Collopy in those years. They are listed as strays on the 1871 census and living with Alexander and Mary. Margaret later had a child by the name of Alexander b. 1873 who is my Grandfather. The family is on the 1881 census living in East Wawanosh. Would anyone have any information about these people? Were they relatives of Margaret and Thomas Collopy? Were they adopted by the Riach family? What was the name of the school that they went to? Thank you for your help. Margaret Whatmore, Whitecourt, Alberta. [email protected]. October 18, 2004

KERR / ELLIOT / CROWE/ MCCULLIGH My gggrandfather Soloman KERR with wife Sarah ELLIOTT, and infant daughter Catherine left somewhere in Ireland, in 1858 or 59, landed somewhere in Canada and then proceeded to Arran Township, Bruce County, Ontario. I have them placed there by 1860 as that is when my ggrandfather John James KERR was born in Arkwright, Arran Twsp. Sarah died and Soloman remarried Eliza CROWE, and they moved to Bidwell Twsp., Manitoulin Island after 1871. Solomon's children with Sarah are: Catherine (b abt. 1858 Ireland, married John MCCullough (also spelled MCCULLIGH) 1876 in Bidwell, Manitoulin Island. Death somewhere between 1884 and 1891. John James (b. 1860, Arkwright Ont., married 1)Elizabeth Mcculligh in 1884. D . sometime before 1891, no surviving children 2) Annie Lockyer (LOCKIER, LOCKYEAR). She died in 1937, he in 1956. Thomas (b. abt 1862, Family legend has it he died in late teens early 20’s. Infant possibly James that died with or soon after Sarah. My direct line comes through JOHN JAMES KERR who had several children with Annie Lockyer: William John, Minnie, Alice (who was called Blanche), Mary (called Mamie), THOMAS JAMES KERR (my Line), Melvyn, Frank. All of these are dead now. My grandfather, THOMAS JAMES KERR, born 1901,Bidwell Twsp., Manitoulin Island, died 1987, Little Current, Manitoulin Island, married Eliza Collins (1907-66) in 1927 on the Manitoulin. They had 3 children, 2 of whom are still living and my father CARL G. KERR born 1931, Manitoulin, Assiginack Twsp., died February 21, 2003. I have lots of sideways details, but I can’t get any farther back than Soloman. Oral History says the family lived in Bridge Town , part of Belfast , but …. I am starting to think he swam over from Ireland. Again family stories suggest that Soloman’s father John , some siblings and friends/relations may have come to Canada at the same time. (MCULLOUGH, ELLIOTT, possibly MACARTER). I have placed Soloman in the 1871 census in Arran, but suspect he may have been living with his father or in laws in 1861.  Please let me know of any info you may have especially of the family's Irish origins, and their life in Bruce County. Contact Susan Kerr Herzog. E-mail: [email protected] July 30, 2004
