December 27, 2009 FORBES In 1887 John Dunn settled in Eastnor. Family members followed, including Harriet Forbes, her son James, daughters Harriet m. Hawes, Mary m. Blake, Alice m. Wotherspoon, Annie m. Buchanan and Laura m. Fowlie. I am unable to trace James, Alice or Annie and would appreciate any information. [email protected]. December 27, 2009 CURRIE / McGILLIVRAY. I'm trying to establish a positive connection to Andrew and Margaret (McGILLIVRAY) CURRIE, of Bruce County, Canada. The Publication "Bruce Township, Tales and Trails" lists the above Andrew as the son of Robert and Elizabeth (FULTON) CURRIE of Eaglesham, Renfrewshire, Scotland. My Robert CURRIE and Elizabeth (FULTON) CURRIE also came from Eaglesham, Renfrewshire, Scotland. Their children Susanna, Andrew, Simon Hugh, Robert, Jean, William, John, James, Janet and Hugh were all born in Eaglesham. They lived in Polnoon Street. Andrew and Hugh supposedly going to America while William, John and James (my line) came to Victoria, Australia. Any help would be appreciated. Please contact Judy at [email protected]. December 27, 2009 STEELE / REID I have been searching for information on Charles Steele who moved to Teeswater, Ont. in 1867 with his wife, Mary Reid and they had eight children: Alexander, David, Thomas, John, Charles, Mary, James and George. Perhaps their last two or three children travelled there with them. Mary Reid is my great grand Aunt on my father's side. Any information that you may have would be greatly appreciated. Please contact Darleen at [email protected]. October 20, 2009 HANRAHAN, Ellen, b. 1853, Canada married 1869 to WHALEN, James, b. Jul 1839, Canada found in 1881 Ontario, South Bruce, Greenock census without husband, but with children. Apparently living with father and mother (Lawrence & Ellen). Trying to find links for Ellen and James Whalen back to Ireland. Also wanting to find James Whalen's location in 1881. [email protected]. September 12, 2009 BARRIE, John, 1849-1914, searching for descendants, born Lanark Co., married Marion MCDONALD also brothers Robert, (1841-1915); William, (1843-1926). All lived in Greenock, Bruce Co. A sister Margaret, (1848- ?) married a William CRAIG,(1843- ?) and lived in Lanark Co. Does anyone have or know a connection to this family? Thank you Gail (Barrie) Teed, reply to [email protected]. September 12, 2009 In 1854 Thomas, John & William Lean /
Lane bought land in Greenock. Thomas con 3 lot 15, John
was Con 3 Lot 11 and William was con Con 3 lot 1. John
died between 1861 and 1871 his wife Agnes Lean died in 1882.
Where would I find a death record for John since it's before
1869? William and his step-daughter Annie McDonald Lean
are buried in the Baptist cemetery in Greenock. I cannot find a grave
for John & Agnes Lean nor can I find a grave for Mary
Nicholson / McDonald Lean. I am sure they must be in the same
cemetery as William & Annie. Can anyone tell me where I
can find a list of burials in Greenock dating back to 1861 and who are
all buried with William. P.S. The listing on OCAF states that
Annie was the wife of Joseph Lean - that is incorrect, she
was the wife of James Lean & I have a picture of the headstone
taken in the 1950s and it says James not Joseph. Thanks
for any help you can give me. Gail Lane, at
[email protected].

All born in Hamilton according to death certificates. May have been other siblings. Family lore says perhaps they had Teeswater connections, between 1863 and 1892. From a listing on the Bruce County Rootsweb.com page, I see that one of their children, Charles CHISHOLM, married Ann Hoffman on 7 Feb 1875 in Teeswater. July 27, 2009 VANCE family: I'm collating the English,
Scottish, Irish, American and other overseas VANCES in the hope
of finally sorting out the connection between them and my family of
VANS of Barnbarroch. My aim is to collect every (!) recorded
Vance family and try to piece together the entire picture, using all
the available sources and taking into account the genetic data. Can
anyone help with any information you have about any VANCES (a
gedcom would be ideal as it saves re-typing) and particularly any ideas,
legends, or better still, knowledge, about their origins. Having all the
available information may help in eventually finding some of the earlier
generations in Ireland and Scotland. Best wishes, Jamie Vans. MORRISON / McKAY / COATS I am looking for pictures of headstones of the following individuals: MARY MORRISON (nee Mckay) b. July 27, 2009 BOWLING, Barnes - I am wanting to know if Barnes BOWLING remained in Bruce County. He was born in England and 'adopted' by the Alexander BUIE family of Elderslie when he came out as a 'home boy'. He appears in the 1934 Reunion List, but from then I have lost him. Did he marry? Did he work out? Was he buried in Bruce County? Thanks for your help. Ruth Burkholder [email protected] April 5, 2009 BOYD / KAAKE, Angus BOYD and Susan KAAKE BOYD lived in Saugeen, Bruce Co., around 1840 to after 1881. 1st son John married Anne BELL and died at age 27. they originated, interesting anecdotes, etc.) I'd love to hear from you

KLAGES / GEBHARDT : If anyone is researching Klages lineage (and those related by marriage), would they be interested in sharing research? Family arrived in Bruce County, c. 1860s, with concentrations around Neustadt and Sullivan County after approximately 1880. Gebhardt line connected to Klages by marriage (August Gebhardt to Elizabeth Klages, settled in Carrick township, c. 1860s). I already have a significant body of information, but am always seeking 'long lost relatives.' I am particularly seeking documented proof of lineage predating immigration to Canada. Related names include: LANG, KAUFMAN, RUHL, SIEGMAN (Neustadt). Gregory Klages, gregoryklages at hotmail dot com. March 9, 2009 GEORGE I am interested in learning about my great uncles Alexander George b. 1886 in Scotland, James George b. 1870 in Ontario and William George b. 1876 in Ayr, Ontario. They and their family moved to Bruce County from Scotland in about 1869. I would like to get in contact with their descendents (David George, Herbert George, Paul George and William George Jr.) or their children. Victoria George at [email protected]. February 22, 2009 CAMERON Does anyone know anything about a
John and Jane Cameron who lived in Saugeen, Bruce
County in 1851? They were born around 1825. He was from Scotland and she
from England. One of their sons was Charles D. Cameron born about
1847. I believe they had a daughter Elizabeth also.

22, 2009 STUBBS I am trying to determine if the Thomas John Stubbs who was living in Bruce County is the the same Thomas John in my research. According to Ontario death records a Thomas John Stubbs died in Walkerton, Bruce Co. Mar. 31, 1894. It also states that he was born in Quebec in 1821. This matches with the Thomas John Stubbs son of George Stubbs and Anne Tipper. I was wondering if anyone is researching the Stubbs family that can help tie this line for me. Thanks, Patricia Greber at [email protected]. January 10, 2009 MURRAY, Hugh: I have reason to believe that the Hugh Murray noted in the Bruce County history (teacher, postmaster, court clerk, etc., died 1902) was my great grandfather. I hope to contact descendants of Hugh and Katherine Murray. Hugh, born Sutherlandshire, Scotland 1833, emigrated to Canada 1857. Thanks. Hugh Murray at [email protected]. January 10, 2009 |
