Who remembers Dunblane ??
The very tiny hamlet of Dunblane is situated at the junction of the townships of Saugeen, Arran & Elderslie, Bruce County, with the Snake Creek flowing through its clay hills. This was an interesting little community during the latter half of the 1800s, and I am trying to do a story of its people. Stories that have not already been in print are the exciting ones . Do YOU have any stories or knowledge of the families therein? The Lovell's Canadian Dominion Directory of 1871 lists these families as getting their mail at the Post Office there: Armstrong, Archibald, farmer; Bryce Thomas, farmer; Craig James, farmer; Craig Timothy, farmer; Dunlop William, farmer; Fraser Donald, farmer; Fraser John, postmaster; Jones Henry, farmer; Jones Mrs. E., storekeeper; Kelly Peter, farmer; McKechnie John, millright; Monro Duncan, sawyer; Rowand James, J.P., reeve, farmer; Scott Robert, farmer; Scott William, farmer; Stark James, grist and saw mill; Talford William, blacksmith; Thomas G.W., veterinary surgeon; Wallace David, farmer; Wallace John, farmer; Wilson --, weaver.
This is an on-going project. Any family histories or tales of the area would be most welcome. Please contact me, Audrey Underwood, by email at [email protected]. January 26, 2003

JONES / BENOIT I am looking for information on a Jean (John) Jones married to a (Sophie) Theoiste Benoit in Vaudreuil, Quebec 1820. They were both born 1800-05. This couple possibly died and were buried in Bruce County, possibly Allenford. They may have had a son William, at least with them. I have no other information on this couple other than the Benoits may have had native blood. McKAY / DAGGY By accident I located my ggg grandmother, Delana Daggy McKay in the 1881 Canada, Kinloss, South Bruce census, pg. 24, Household 112: Delana Mckay, Wd, Female, American, 40, USA, C. Presbyterian James Henery McKay, Male, Scottish, 12, USA, C. Presbyterian Albert McKay, Male, American, 8, Ontario, C. Presbyterian Charles McKay, Male, American, 6, Ontario, C. Presbyterian This was an amazing find and told us a lot of information. Delana had married a McKay but we heard many names for this man (Neil, Charles, Henry, Albert or James). If information in this census is true, the family relocated to Ontario in about 1873, the 2 younger boys were born and "Neil" died between 1875-1881. I don't know much about research for Canada and would appreciate any suggestions for trying to locate a death for Neil and/or Delana. James Henry (my gg grandfather) relocated in North Dakota between about 1898-1904 (?) and died in Webb, Saskatchewan in 1932. His death certificate refers to his father as "Neil". Many thanks for any help. Charles Howard [email protected] January 5, 2003
