Notes

"When Peter Cuttino, Jr, who was the father of Elizabeth Cuttino, died in 1766, John Dunnam was certified on June 10, 1766, as Administrator as nearest of Kin also on October 30, 1760, Peter Cuttino, Jr made a gift of slaves to his three grandsons John, Ebenezer and Jacob Dunnam.

This family came to America from France and were Huguenots. This is the Huguenot connection that some Dunnams have spoken about. Dr George Cuttino of Atlanta, has researched this family back to New Rochelle, France. The Cuttinos became leading members of the Baptist Church in Georgetown, SC around 1800.

The Cuttinos first settled in the Orange Quarter near Charleston, South Carolina, where there were many French Protestants."

Judith GREENE

1620 - ____

ID Number: I58508

  • RESIDENCE: of Stepney, England and Prob. James City, VA
  • BIRTH: 1620, Stepney, England
  • RESOURCES: See: [S1817]
Father: Michael GREENE Gent.

Family 1 : James TAYLOR

Notes

"Judith Greene, baptised in 1620, is clearly the Headright appearing in the 1635 Land Patent Grant to William Swan, when she would have been aged 15 or thereabouts. However she may have returned to England, as a marriage is recorded on 21 August 1642 between Judith Greene and James Taylor at St. Clement Danes Church, London [Parish Register entry needs checking].

Her name also occurs on a Headright claim of 3 July 1648, filed by Thomas Hart, so she could have made more than one crossing [Cavaliers and Pioneers, p. 176]. Thomas Hart, son of Henry Hart, deceased, patented 100 acres at Smith’s Fort, James City County, on 2 May 1648, for the transport of Robert Knight, Judith Greene, William Pierce and Phillip Clave. In this context there is a marriage recorded between a Thomas Hart and Margaret Wamsley on 22 October 1603 at Shipbourne.

There is also an Administration of the estate of a Judith Greene of St. Paul Shadwell, Middlesex, granted in the Commissary Court of London in 1679 [Register 23, Folio 89], which has yet to be examined." [S1817]
