"Dr. Samuel Radford York Obit: DR. YORK PASSES AT CENTER AT 80
Funeral services for Dr. Samuel R. York, a pioneer Metcalfe Co.
Dr. were held at Center Christian Church Sat. afternoon at 2
o'clock, with burial in the Horse Cave cem. Funeral services
were conducted by Bros. A.R. Hill, Glasgow, and E.G. Creacy,
Horse Cave. Dr. York died at his home at Center of a heart
ailment Fri. He had suffered 2 strokes a few years ago but had
continued his practice until about a month ago. He began his
practice at Center in 1899, after his graduation from the old
Univeristy of Nashville Medical School. He purchased his first
automobile in 1915 and prior to that time had made thousands of
trips on horse back or by buggy to patients in the Metcalfe,
Barren, Green and Hart area. He was a prominent farmer and owned
some 500 acres of land. He was a loyal follower of the Center
High School basketball team and attended all games when his
practice permitted. Dr. York was a native of Jackson Co., Tenn.
In his youth he rafted logs down the Cumberland, and later
taught school in Southern Ky. Survivors include his wife, Mrs.
Mollie Sandidge York, to whom he had been married 48 years; a
son, Dr. Paul S. York, Glasgow; a daughter, Mrs. W.E. Cook,
Hardyville, schoolteacher at Memorial and former superintendent
of Hart Co schools, and a brother, Dr. J.W. York, Canmer. Active
pallbearers were L.O. Hoover, M.L. South, Hubbard Smith, T.S.
Pierce, J.E. Lowe and Ovie Walton. Honorary pallbearers were
Drs. C.C. Howard, Daryl Harvey, W.A. Weldon and Dr. Starr, all
of Glasgow: Dr. H.T. Carter, Edmonton, Dr. Botts, Hardyville.
