She is no. 124 in the Burnand genealogy, which says, clearly in error, that she inherited the domain of Champmartin in 1712 (31 years before she was born!).
The baptism does not name the mother, and spells the surname Burnant. In spite of this and other evidence, this person has been identified as the daughter of Daniel Burnand and Marie Dutoit, as well as the wife of Antoine Gavoens (Gavoin, Gavin), Pierre Roberty, and Pierre Frossard. At least the first of these marriages is incorrect: the wife of Antoine Gavoens was actually Marie, daughter of Fran�ois Burnand, blacksmith and bourgeois of Moudon (Jaques Jayet, notary at Moudon, ACV DL 57/3 fol. 71v, dated 08 mar 1630).
Was the Marie Burnand who married Pierre Roberty and Pierre Frossard also the one who married Antoine Gavoin, as stated in some secondary sources? More research is needed to verify this point.
These sources give her parentage as Daniel Burnand and Marie Dutoit. Is it possible that Daniel Burnand married first Fran�oise Dutoit and then, a few years later, Marie Dutoit? The identification of the wives of the Burnand and Burnat families does not seem consistent with the church records. It is also possible that there has been confusion between Marie Burnand and Marie Burnat, since the spellings of that period often seem inconsistent. The baptism attributed to her gives the surname as Burnant. However, a document recorded 08 mar 1630 by Jaques Jayet, notary at Moudon (ACV DL 57/3 fol.71v) makes clear that she was a daughter of Fran�ois Burnand, not Daniel Burnand or Daniel Burnat. The transaction in question is a sale of property by Aym� Riguet, tuteur for Magdelaine and Pernette, daughters of the late Fran�ois Burnand bourgeois de Moudon, and by Antoine Gavoens bourgeois de Moudon with his wife Marie daughter of the said Fran�ois, to Jaques Berthod, bourgeois and cordonnier of Moudon. Now that the correct parentage of the wife of Antoine Gavoens is known, we can begin to untangle the question of the marriages of Pierre Roberty and Pierre Frossard.
The entry for the marriage to Antoine Gavoens 08 feb 1630, in the "Deacon's Register" at Moudon, does not give her parentage nor does it say that she had been married previously. The entry for the marriage to Pierre Frossard 02 dec 1643, in the main register for that period, calls her Marie Burnand widow of Roberti.
