(male)
Father: Rolet DUTOIT (b. BEF 1490, d. BEF 1555)
Mother: Jeanne TINTORIS (dates unknown)

  6.  Jeanne DUTOIT (bp. 7 FEB 1571)
  7.  Baptiste DUTOIT (bp. 10 NOV 1573)

As Hieronime, Jeronime, Jerosmine, Jeremoz, or Geronime Dutey, he is mentioned several times in the records of the notary Rodolphe (Roud) Demont in the 1540's and 1550's, among the children of the late Rolet son of the late Guy Dutoit. The terrier ACV Fn 337, for the Cure de Moudon, has a reconnaissance for Jaques Dutey (=Dutoit) pour une quarte part de la moyti, Pernette relicte de Jerosmine Dutey pour la quatre part, Pierre Dutey pour l'aultre quarte part, Roulx Dutey pour l'aultre quart part de ladicte moyti, Thyvent et Franois Jossivel comme bientenants de Jehan filz de feuz Claude Vesre (=Veyre) pour l'aultre moyti, dated 01 dec 1574 (fol. 237). The text explains that the property had previously been held, half by Rod or Rolet du Tey de Chavannes and the other half by Jehan Vaire. This reconnaissance tells us that Hieronime or Jerosmine Dutoit had died by 1574, leaving a widow Pernette, presumably acting as "mre tutrice" for her children in her late husband's share of the property. However, the previous terrier, compiled by Franois Collon, seems not to have survived.

Evidently there was just one Humbert (adult) around 1600, who had at least two, and probably three wives. This explains transaction of Abraham Dutoit "frre paternel" of the late Jaques Dutoit favre (DeCristaz, 1633). If first wife is the right one, Humbert is the son of a Jean Charles DuToict (no other record of this person). However, it is very likely that there was an additional wife about 1580. An illegitimate daughter Sara is noted 09 jul 1576. Later children Ulrich (1611) and Magdelaine (1618) may belong to this Humbert as well. Humbert is first noted as deceased in 1622. No evidence has been found to require that there were more than one Humbert Dutoit.

[14418] Recorded in the register that was taken by the minister to his new post at Granges.

Isaac DUTOIT       (ID #I6872)

Family 1 : Susanne ROSSELET (dates unknown)
  1.  Abraham Jacob DUTOIT (bp. 16 MAR 1676)
  2.  Jaques David DUTOIT (bp. 3 NOV 1678)
  3.  Abraham DUTOIT (bp. 28 JAN 1688)

Marriage record says he is "of Chavannes", no other details. Two of his children are identified with certainty, as both parents are named in the baptismal records. Son Jaques David recorded as the son of "Jaques Dutoit and Susanne Rossalet," and we assume the father's name was recorded here incorrectly. It is likely that baptisms of at least a couple children were omitted from the records between 1678 and 1688. Among the "lost" children might be the Isaac son of Isaac who married Christine Susanne DeMont, 1730.

The identity of Isaac appears to be established by a complaint of Susanne Rosselet, wife of Isaac Dutoit, against her sister-in-law (?) Jeanne Wagnires, 17 apr 1678, before the cour de justice de Moudon (ACV Bil 53, with subsequent appearances as late as 17 dec 1678). However, Daniel Dutoit, husband of Jeanne Wagnires, was born about 1611. They were married in 1638. Daniel did not have a brother Isaac. It does not seem feasible that Susanne and Jeanne would be sisters-in-law. Instead, they are step-sisters (Jean Wagnires, father of Jeanne, was the stepfather of Susanne), and it seems most likely that this is a different Jeanne Wagnires, not the one who married Daniel Dutoit.

  7.  Jean Benoit DUTOIT (bp. 30 DEC 1657, d. 1720)

In his marriage record, he is listed as the son of the late Jaques Dutoit, in his lifetime a citizen of Vevey. Since the age of marriage for men was rarely less than 20, and usually at least 25, we place his birth about 1615, making him the first child of this couple, although the baptism has not been identified.

He must also be the "Isaacus de Tecto vel Tectano Viviacensis" who was enrolled at the University of Basel in June, 1630. The student's age was not noted, but it is entirely plausible for a teenager to be enrolled at a university in that period. However, we might consider moving his birthdate back a few years.

Isaac DUTOIT       (ID #I2059)

(male)
Father: Abraham DUTOIT (d. BEF 1689)
Mother: Pernon VEYRE (bp. 28 OCT 1624, d. 1694)

Family 1 : Susanne CUAGNI (b. ABT 1655, d. 2 SEP 1733)
  1. +Philippe DUTOIT (b. 1697, d. 13 OCT 1772)
  2.  Isaac DUTOIT (d. BEF 1756)
  3.  Jean DUTOIT (d. BEF 1741?)

He is first mentioned in 1667 (the date is unclear, could perhaps be 1668) when he appears in the name of his brothers Jaques, Jacob, and Thomas, selling property to his cousin Anthoine Dutoit, Lt. of Chavannes (David de Treytorrens, notary 06 jan 1667).

In 1696, he married Susanne Cuagnier or Cuagny, the widow of the other Anthoine Dutoit of Chavannes (dit "au Clerc", not the Lieutenant of Chavannes). Anthoine "au Clerc" had died about 1688 (his widow noted then). The baptisms the children of Isaac and Susanne have not been located. The entry for their first son Philippe in the baptismal registers of Moudon was made at a later date, and does not give an exact date of baptism. No record has yet been found for the baptisms of the other two sons that have been identified, Isaac Dutoit the sergeant, and Jean Dutoit Lt. de Chavannes. A settlement among the heirs of Isaac and Susanne (25 mar 1769, Jaques David Burnand, notary) also mentions two nephews of Philippe, Sgt. Isaac, and Jean: Jean Rod (Roud, Roux) of Ropraz, and Philippe Durussel of Chesalles. The nephews have not been identified, so it is not clear if their relationship derives from an unknown daughter of Isaac and Susanne, or from a child of Susanne and her first husband.

It is possible that Isaac had an earlier wife. For example, he would be about the right age to be the Isaac who married in 1675 to Susanne Rosallet.

In view of the large number of baptisms from the late 17th Century that seem to be missing at Moudon, we have wondered if there might not have been a separate register of baptisms at a chapel of Chavannes, another deacon's register, or some other record that has been lost. It is doubtful that the children were never baptised.

  4. +Jeanne DUTOIT (dates unknown)
  5.  Abraham DUTOIT (d. AFT 1742)

In addition to his known children, Isaac may have had a son Gabriel, who is mentioned along with the known son Jean Antoine in a document relating to transactions involving his aunt Marguerite Dutoit wife of Daniel Rochettaz, 19 dec 1709, recorded by Daniel Antoine Jossevel, notary at Moudon. Also, a daughter Jeanne is noted as wife of Samuel Frossard in 1728 (same notary). Could he have been the father of the Isaac who married Christine Susanne DeMont in 1730?

[851] Assumed to have been born between Jean Pierre and Anthoine, no other gap appearing at the right time. He is said to be the son of Jean Dutoit of Chesalles in his marriage record.

Conseiller de Moudon, justicier, Chtelain de Vulliens, banneret of Moudon, Chtelain de Chavannes, and notary.

Transcript of his death record at Moudon: "Monsieur Isaac DuToit Banderet de la Ville de Moudon est mort la nuit le vendredy cinquieme au samedy sixieme de Janvier et a est enseveli le Dimanche suivant du dit mois 1731."

His surviving notarial registers, some attributed incorrectly to others, are available on microfilm through the Family History Library as follows:

  1. 17 nov 1685-1688, with some later annotations, ACV DP 1/1, FHL microfilm #0996232, attributed to Abraham Ballif but signed in several places and clearly in the hand of Isaac Dutoit.
  2. may 1685-1709, ACV DL 37/1-12, FHL microfilms #00922324-6, one register bearing the inscription Jean Isaac Dutoit and a further notation that these records were "trouvs daus les papiers de feu M. le Conseiller & Medecin Dutoit son fils 1696 1711 et deposs dans les archives..." Register DL 37/11 is a "registre des testaments pour Isaac DuToict de Moudon pour les annes 1685-1690", with an inscription by his son Abraham Dutoit, "Mon pre est mort en 1731, La nuit du 5 au 6e janvier, ds lors je rapporte icy les testaments que j'ay receu." Register DL 37/12 is a minutaire kept by Abraham Dutoit, 1710-1712, after he had taken over some of his father's duties. (The ACV has acquired additional registers of Abraham Dutoit from the Archives Communales de Moudon; these were not microfilmed by the Family History Library.)
  3. 1694-1700, ACV DP 69/1-2, FHL microfilm #0922422, the first register with inscription DePalzieux dit Falconnier, but signed in several places and clearly in the hand of Isaac Dutoit. (A recent inventory at the ACV corrects the attribution of these registers.)
  4. circa 1715-1727 or later, ACV DO 33/1, written on blank pages at the end of a register by Jean Jordan, 1669-1694, FHL microfilm #996220, including information first about a special tax levied on the commune of Chavannes in 1715, followed by diverse entries about Isaac's family, properties, and other matters, all of this in his own hand.
See below for additional discussion of these records.

His children Abraham and Esther appeared at a baptism as sponsors in 1705. In 1712, at a baptism, his wife is identified as Claudine Cavin, probably an error, though Claudine DuBrit's mother was in fact a Cavin. He is also the notary Isaac or Jean Isaac Dutoit, whose records survive (in part) from 1685 to at least 1727. One of his registers shows his name as J. Isaac Dutoit (probably a later annotation), and his signature could be interpreted as a J and an I worked into the D of Dutoit — however, one could also see, more plausibly, an I and an S. Now, the notary is supposed to have had a son who was conseiller and mdecin at Moudon (later annotation on one of his registers that was supposedly found in the papers of that son after his death), but it is not clear who this was, and besides, the attribution was made about 1794 and could be incorrect. However, he had only one son, Abraham, certainly a notary, and also famous for having penned an early document in the local patois. An undated "Convention faite en famille" is included in draft form in his register of testaments (ACV DL 37/11); it specifies tha this son Abraham, justicier, will manage the estate after his parents' deaths for the benefit of Abraham's sisters. This "Convention", however, is a draft that was never finalized, as a notation in the notary's own hand makes clear: "Cecy est rest imparfait, n'ayant pas est achev." The transcript reveals many details of Isaac and his family, though unfortunately not his parentage.

Yet another of the documents from his hand was microfilmed at the end of the papers of the notary Jean Jordan of Oron, covering 1669-1694. The document is a compilation relating to a special tax levied on property at Chavannes by Their Excellencies of Bern, November and December 1715, and contains additional notes about Isaac's real estate holdings as late as 1727. The document consists of a copy of the edict and then a listing and discussion of properties owned by others, and finally those owned by Isaac himself. He mentions one property that he had donated to his son, Egrge Abraham Dutoit justicier de Moudon, Curial de Chappelle et Chattelain de Vulliens. From the appearance of this register on the FHL microfilm, we surmise that Isaac availed himself of the unused pages at the end of a register of Jean Jordan. There is no indication that the pages do not "belong" with the rest of the register. A transcript of this document is available, though there is some uncertainty about the interpretation of some of the toponyms.

We suspect Isaac may have been an elder in the church at Moudon, since at least two of his children married ministers. The marriage of his daughter Jeanne Benigne to Abraham Badoux, minister at Thierrens, is well documented. The marriage of Jeanne Marie to Jean Jaques Desonnaz, minister at Moudon, St. Cierges-Chappelle Vaudanne, and Meyriez, took longer to discover, but now seems certain. Isaac and Claudine are the sponsors at the baptism of a child of the minister Desonnaz in 1724, and Jeanne Marie is mentioned as the daughter of the late Banderet Dutoit in 1731. As of 1729, and also in 1730, the Banderet was our Isaac Dutoit. Possibly the same debt that occasioned the entry in 1731 by Alexandre Tapis, notary at Combremont-le-Petit, is mentioned again in 1739 (J. Frossard, notary) as a debt "in favor of the late Banderet Dutoit, or rather to Mr. the minister Dessonnaz, his son-in-law."

From this limited information, it is at least possible to rule out that the Isaac Dutoit who married Susanne DeVallon was the Banderet and father of Jeanne Marie. That Isaac and his wife Susanne were still alive as late as 1738, when they appear in records of Jean Pierre Jayet, notary at Moudon.

The death of Isaac Dutoit the notary and banderet is noted on one of his surviving registers in the hand of his son as "the night of 5-6 January", 1731. The available index to death records for that period has two Isaac's in the same year, 25 jan and 21 jul, with no age given for either one. The original burial register was not microfilmed.

Inside the flyleaf of the same register that contains the "Convention faite en famille", in what looks like an immature or uneducated hand, is a set of curious notations:

"Ce present livre apartient moy qui mapelle Anthoine Dutoict de Chavanes et bourgeois de Moldon."

.... followed by notations made at a different time, possibly in the same hand,

The hand does not look at all like that of Isaac, and from the date of 1673, it can hardly be that of his son Abraham, who was probably not even born then. The reference to an Abraham who had a brother Daniel is not very helpful, and there are numerous connections between the various Favre and Dutoit families. If we have correctly interpreted the messy handwriting, the writer was at one point Gouverneur of Chavannes, but since this position was an annual appointment and there were only a few families living in Chavannes, a great many Dutoits have probably held this position! It may be that the notation does not even pertain to Isaac or his family. Is this another instance where Isaac acquired an otherwise empty register and used it for his own purposes?

The parentage of this Isaac has been difficult to establish. The published Dutoit genealogy assumed that Isaac the Banderet was the son of Pierre Dutoit and Marie Frossard. No evidence of such a relationship has emerged so far, and the notary himself seems not to have mentioned his parentage in his records. Not only did the published genealogy give him the wrong parents, it also gave him three children, two of which are probably not his. Isaac the banderet cannot be the son of Pierre Dutoit and Marie Frossard, because their son Isaac was born in 1683, and the present Isaac was already a notary as early as 1685. (He is still listed as notary in 1694, his additional titles of justicier and Chtelain of Vulliens first noted in 1699.) His wife Claudine DuBrit is cited at various times in contemporary records from at least 1682 to 1728, and she is identified as the wife of the notary in his own records on more than one occasion.

At least a few documents refer to the notary, and in his own hand, as a "cousin" of the children of Daniel Dutoit s Andr and his wife Christine Buttet. If the connection is through the Dutoit family, he would have to be the son of a brother of Daniel Dutoit. So far, we have no evidence of this, though the matter is not entirely settled, because no children of the other sons of Andr Dutoit have been identified. The problem is complicated by the occasional use of "cousin" to mean something other than first cousins.

One plausible parentage for Isaac, at least in terms of dates, appears not to be correct: son of Abraham Dutoit, conseiller de Moudon, and his wife Jeanne Catherine Dutoit, baptised 02 jun 1659 at Moudon. If this were correct, he would have been raised by his step-father Daniel Nicaty, who might have used his influence to advance his step-son's career. However, we would have expected that such a parentage would be explicitly noted. An even more plausible parentage is Pierre Dutoit and his wife Marie Dorothe Buttet, her full name so far located only twice in notarial records, and for whom Isaac baptised 05 may 1659 seems to be the only child (this record gives only the surname of the mother, not her given name). This Isaac is the subject of a document recorded by David de Treytorrens (14 aug 1671), naming Isaac's guardian Pierre Estoppey of Trey as well as his aunt Christine Buttet. No siblings or other family members are named, implying that Isaac may have been an only child. Indeed, the wording suggests that perhaps even his mother is deceased. If Marie Dorothe Buttet is the sister of Christine, then this Isaac would indeed be the nephew of Christine Buttet and the cousin of her children.

That there were other records pertaining to Isaac's inheritance can be inferred from the document just mentioned. It says that Pierre Estoppey is the "tuteur testamentaire"; in other words, he was named as guardian for Isaac in the testament of his father Pierre Dutoit, or perhaps that of Pierre's widow. Further, the document says that the parcel of land being sold at auction came into the possession of the widow of Pierre Dutoit before it became subject to sale for Isaac's benefit. This strongly suggests that Isaac's mother had died by this point. It is likely that other mentions will be found relating to transactions of Pierre Estoppey on behalf of his ward.

The text of the document follows:

David de Treytorrens, notary at Moudon, 14 aug 1671.

Acquis.

(The other mentions of Marie Dorothe Buttet as widow of Pierre are in a register of David de Treytorrens, and in an unidentified register ACV DL 91/9 that is suspected to be from the hand of the same notary.)

The document at the end of the register of Jean Jordan contains additional clues. Isaac here calls the notary David DeTreytorrens "my uncle", and mentions that, in connection with his uncle's estate, he had to travel repeatedly to Cudrefin, Yverdon, and Lausanne. He also mentions that Etiennaz Barbille DeTreytorrens, the residual heir of David DeTreytorrens, is now (circa 1727?) the wife of Noble Franois Louis DeTreytorrens, Chtelain de Cudrefin. (She is presumably the Estienne, daughter of David DeTreytorrens and Susanne DeCristaz baptised at Moudon 18 dec 1666.) It is not yet clear how the relationship between Isaac and David should be understood, but there is a marriage at Moudon, 05 sep 1618, of Noble Albert DeTreytorrens, son of Noble Lgier DeTreytorrens who was Chtelain d'Yverdon, to Claudaz, daughter of the late Gaspard Dutoit. This marriage seems much too early to explain how David could be Isaac's uncle, but it suggests that it would be worth exploring the DeTreytorrens family in more detail in the surviving records of the district of Yverdon. The purchase of the house in Moudon by Antoine Carran is found in ACV DL 37/7, dated 20 oct 1696. It identifies the widow of David DeTreytorrens as Susanne Decristaz, but does not otherwise clarify the relationships. It does, however, specify that the house was on the Rue de Pont, adjacent to the Maison de Ville. The complete transcript of this document is available. With the information now at hand, and assuming that Isaac is indeed the son of Marie Dorothe Buttet, Isaac is found to be the first cousin once removed of the notary David De Treytorrens, whose mother was Claudaz, daughter of Guillaume Buttet or Buttex, great-grandfather of Isaac. (In France, the cousin once removed would be called "oncle la mode de Brtagne". Apparently this extension of the concept of the uncle was accepted in Switzerland as well.)

The document in the register of Jean Jordan refers to one more relationship, referring several times to "my brother-in-law" Jossevel. Aside from the fact that the unidentified Jossevel was the father of many children, no additional information is given. We suppose that Jossevel, whoever he turns out to be, married a sister of Claudine DuBrit.

Finally, the document states clearly at least twice that Isaac's wife had died by 1727, leading us to suppose that a mention of his wife in 1728, as if still alive, must be a reference to a prior document.

A glimpse into the period prior to Isaac's notarial registers is given in the records of David de Crausaz, notary at Trey (district of Payerne, ACV DP 24). These records reveal that Isaac Dutoit "bourgeois et Chirugien de Moudon", accompanied in 1681 by his father-in-law Bastiant DuBrit (thus providing the earliest known reference to his marriage with Claudine DuBrit), had brought legal action against Pierre Estoppey (son of Andr and Anne, and whose first wife was Marie Bize, and whose second wife, still living, was Marie Vauthier) because of non-payment of a letter of rent (in effect, a mortgage) dated 01 nov 1669 (recorded by the same notary, but his register from this period seems not to have survived), of which the beneficiary was Isaac Dutoit and the debtors were Andr Estoppey and Marie Bize then wife of Pierre. There is also mention of a related action against Isaac on 09 nov 1678. Back payments from 27 feb 1674 to date were assessed at 1300 florins plus interest. On 19 jun 1680, the mortgaged properties were either sold or awarded to Isaac Dutoit, and Isaac sold off whatever remained on 05 mar 1681, assisted by Bastiant du Brit. By that time, the original Pierre Estoppey had died; the his son Pierre Estoppey was now the Lieutenant de Trey (Lieutenant in the sense, apparently, of the appointed representative for the "government" of the territory that was formerly property of the abbey of Payerne), as his father had been before him.

A further clue, perhaps, is found in the registers of Daniel Estoppey, notary at Granges-prs-Marnand (ACV DP 37). We found two documents, 20 nov 1691 and 20 feb 1693, in which Isaac Dutoit is called Curial de Chapelle-Vaudanne. In other words, the gap in the baptisms of his children may simply mean that he was living in another parish for a few years. (Chapelle-Vaudanne, now called Chapelle-sur-Moudon, should fall in the parish of St. Cierges.)

Now, if Isaac could act on his own as early as 1678, we would normally expect that he had reached the age of majority (25) and so would have been born no later than 1653. Is the baptism of 1659 in error? Or, because of his circumstances and the fact that he had already become a surgeon, was he considered an adult? And the date 1669 sounds very much like a reference to the sale of property for his benefit prior to 1671, quoted above. Perhaps Isaac's guardian Pierre Estoppey had sold a number of different parcels, in different jurisdictions, to various parties, including to his own father Andr Estoppey and to his own (first) wife Marie Bize. The sales, at least those at Trey, were apparently recorded by David de Crausaz, whose notarial register from that period seems to have been lost. Perhaps Isaac was sent away to school shortly after 1671, and when he returned, he found that his guardian had not planned to give him his inheritance directly, and besides had only enough cash to cover payments up to 1674. Isaac probably acted to force payment as soon as he could. The records of the court at Trey may answer these questions.

Isaac, identified as a surgeon, also appears as a witness 29 aug 1679 at a hearing concerning a bizarre incident at the Maison de Ville in Moudon. A "Stranger" or "Foreigner" had been entertaining a crowd in the Salle de Ville with his trumpet and dancing bears, but he had had too much to drink and began beating his bears with a stick and arguing with his wife as well. The crowd sprang to the defense of the bears, and a brawl ensued, after which the Stranger fled into the street, where he brandished a knife and where Abraham Nicod tried to push him into the fountain (the Fontaine du Pont, at that date adorned with a statue of the blind Justice, which has since taken up residence at a different fountain in Moudon). This scene, probably the most interesting thing that happened in Moudon during the entire course of the 17th Century, is also the earliest notice of Isaac's profession.

We were surprised to find Isaac's signature several times in a register attributed to Abraham Ballif, and classified as belonging in the district of Payerne. This register, covering 1685-1688 with a few later annotations or additions, was catalogued under the rubric ACV DP 1/1 at the time it was filmed by the Family History Library (FHL microfilm #0996232). In our opinion, virtually the entire register is in the hand of Isaac Dutoit. Recently, we found external proof that this register was truly the work of Isaac Dutoit. On Folio 208, there is a document concerning the inventory and distribution of the estate of Claudine Dutoit, first wife of Balthazard Crausaz of Chavannes, with accompanying annotations relating that the settlement had been entered into the records of the cour de justice of Chavannes. In the corresponding register of that court, ACV B i l 264, we found the same inventory and settlement, with the notation that the same document had been entered on folio 208 of the register of Isaac Dutoit!

While the church records and other evidence lead us to identify Isaac's maternal grandfather as Pierre Buttet, a passage extracted from the Manuaux de Conseil of Moudon gives his name as Henri: (session of 18 aug 1688) "Permis Georges (perhaps a misreading of the usual abbreviation for Egrge?) Isaac Dutoit curial substitu de ce lieu de prendre le banc et place que fust Mr. Henri Buttet son pre grand occupait dans le temple St. Etienne et ce l'exclusion de tous autres." The Curial Substitu at that date was certainly our Isaac Dutoit, whose name has never before been given as Georges Isaac. In light of this apparent error, we need to locate the passage in the original Manuel to verify the text. The volume of extracts from the Manuaux de Conseil 1500-1713 is a typescript apparently derived from a manuscript prepared by Pierre-Isaac Joly, 1818-1901. Judging from the extracts, disputes about the seating arrangements in the church were frequent, and a useful source for genealogists.

Not the notary apparently born about the same time, because the notary's father was one of the Pierre Dutoit's. It is just possible that this Isaac was the one who married in 1675 to Susanne Rosallet; however, it this were so, we would have expected many mentions of the fact in the many documents relating to his parents' estates. He was certainly still alive in 1680, when his brother-in-law Sbastian DeBrit junior came before the "cour de justice" of Moudon to complain about the management of the estate of the late Abraham Dutoit by the step-father of the heirs, Daniel Nicaty. On that occasion, 25 feb 1680 (ACV B i l 54), it was stated that the proceeds from a letter of rent should have been applied toward the apprenticeship of Isaac, step-son of Nicaty, and, further, Monsieur le Secrtaire Trolliet is identified as Isaac's guardian. Isaac was then under the age of majority, and it seems very unlikely that this would have been the case if he had already married to Susanne Rosallet.

  7.  Isaac Jean Baptiste DUTOIT (bp. 10 JUL 1724, d. 27 FEB 1733)

A donation of Agathe Bosset, widow of the late Pierre Dutoit, chamoiseur, 08 jan 1734, names her son Isaac Dutoit and his wife Susanne deVallon. A record of Philippe Burnand, 10 jun 1702, identifies Isaac Dutoit chamoiseur as the son of Pierre Dutoit and Agathe Bosset, and further identifies his grandfather as Antoine Dutoit. A variety of records after about 1721 identify him as chamoiseur and also justicier at Bussy. He is also the Isaac identified as "Veisguerber" (document of Isaac Dutoit, notary, 08 jun 1705), a word used at least once interchangeably with chamoiseur.

Late in life, he and his wife deeded their assets to their children in a partage dated 17 oct 1754 (Jaques David Burnand, notary at Moudon). The donation is accompanied by an inventory prepared with the aid of "Messieurs les ministres Nicaty nos Pasteurs, leurs Cousins Germains" (i.e., the Nicaty ministers, identified elsewhere in the document as Jean and No Nicaty, brothers, first and second ministers of Moudon were first cousins to Isaac and Susanne). (See Vincent Briod, notary, 10 apr 1676, also P. Gavin, 01 feb 1673. Susanne de Vallon's sister Anne married Pierre Nicaty, and her father's sister Marguerite married Abraham Nicaty. Jean and No are Susanne's cousins. However, there does not seem to be a way to make both Isaac Dutoit and his wife first cousins of the Nicaty brothers, except by marriage.)

Text of the partage, Jaques David Burnand, notary, 17 oct 1754:

Donnation entre vifs, et transaction d'entre les jugaux Isaac Dutoit l'ain de cette ville, et leur famille, homologu Moudon le 30e octobre 1754. Voy le Registre de Cour No. 7.

Isaac DUTOIT       (ID #I2241)

(male)
Father: Pierre DUTOIT (bp. 24 DEC 1646, d. AFT 1709)
Mother: Marie FROSSARD (bp. 30 SEP 1644, d. 18 SEP 1729)

Family 1 :
  1.  Baltazard DUTOIT (b. ABT 1695?, d. 2 MAY 1747)
  2. +Samuel DUTOIT (b. ABT 1697, d. BEF 1751)

While the parentage of this Isaac is certain, the children attributed to him in the published genealogy are not likely his. Of these, Samuel is the best attested, but his baptism has not been identified (he was married before 1722). Baltazard has not been identified with any certainty, and the Esther who married Samuel Fabri belongs to Isaac the notary and banderet who married Claudine DuBrit and who does not seem to have had children Samuel and Baltazard.

Father: Jaques DUTOIT (bp. 19 SEP 1658)
Mother: Genon MARTIN (dates unknown)

Family 1 : Elizabeth DELESSERT (d. 1737)
  1.  Marie DUTOIT (bp. 28 OCT 1708)

A document recorded by Jean (?) Frossard, notary at Moudon, 22 jun 1739, relates that Jaques Franois and Jean Jaques Dutoit, brothers, of Neyruz, settle their joint inheritance from the testament of their late brother Isaac probated 07 oct 1736 at Moudon. The testament itself has so far not been found. However, there is a notation that an inventory was prepared 11 feb 1737 (Daniel Antoine Jossevel, notary at Moudon). Heirs mentioned by the latter notary include Jaques Franois and Jean Jaques Dutoit.

[1425] But apparently identified as living 03 mar 1738, as joint owner of property being exchanged by Jaques Franois Dutoit (that reference could have been intended to read "heirs of" his brother Isaac Dutoit).

[14471] Date of contract, Daniel Antoine Jossevel, notary.

In his parents' donation of 1754, he is said to have married a Catholic woman and was then living in Namur, Belgium. He cannot be the Isaac who married Christine Susanne DeMont in 1730, as that Isaac died in 1742, and his father was already deceased in 1730.

Among the records of Jaques David Burnand, notary and Curial de Moudon is a document involving a settlement among the heirs of three brothers, Isaac, Jean, and Philippe Dutoit (25 mar 1769). The settlement reveals that Isaac son of Philippe was named for his uncle, Isaac Dutoit the sergeant in the service of Holland.

Father: Antoine DUTOIT (bp. 20 DEC 1663, d. AFT 1733)

In all probability, this is the Antoine Dutoit of Lausanne admitted to communion at the Walloon church of Bois-le-Duc in September 1728, on the attestation of "some soldiers" that he had taken communion previously, and on the basis of an extract from the baptismal registers of the church of Lausanne. He was received into membership at the Hague 17 feb 1730 on the basis of a recommendation from the church of Lausanne. This fact makes us suspect that a later record may refer to his father: "Antoine Dutoit of Lausanne" received as a member at the Hague, 1733. Since the younger Antoine was already accepted into the congregation, it should not have been necessary to repeat the process! It is also possible, however, that the later record is only a digest of the earlier records. Only the extracted records (e.g., the Leiden Index) have been examined so far.
