Her name is Escoffey in one record, Cavin in another. A significant number of surnames of wives seem to be confused in the baptismal records at Moudon beginning about 1717-1718.

This seems to be the man whom Louise DeVaud, wife of Roulx Dutoit, called a "wicked man", and whom Guillaume therefore sued for libel (settlement of this dispute recorded by Rodolphe Demont, notary at Moudon, 18 jan 1559). The surname has two forms in early (mainly Latin) records: Espaz or Espa, and Ensis. The Guillaume Espaz who married Michre Frossard in 1571 is probably a much younger man.
This is presumably the Guillaume Espaz who, in 1561, is noted as the maternal sister of Jeanne Bize, wife first of Claude Nicod of Granges and next of Michel Fivaz (Pierre Chuard, notary at Payerne, ACV Dp 16/8, fol. 395, dated 02 may 1561).
Surname is usually given as Ensis in Latin, taking the French form Espas or Espaz as meaning "sword" (pe).
