I22292: Joseph Fran�ois BURNAND (b. 15 SEP 1712, d. 14 MAR 1803)
He is no. 292 in the Burnand genealogy. He was very short, only 5' 4" tall, and blind. His grandson Sir Frances Cowley Burnand describes him in his Records and Reminiscences (1904).
The baptisms at Syens are now listed out of chronological order. It apppears that the pages are bound incorrectly, and there is a gap between June, 1602 and December, 1605. Evidently, the center sheet of the quire, covering June, 1602 through most of December, 1605 has been lost, and when the quire was sewn back together, the two sheets in the center were placed out of order. It was only after this repair that the pages were numbered!
Louis was baptised at Syens, but the name of his mother is not given.
Shortly before his marriage, he appears as a sponsor at a baptism in Moudon as Louis son of Daniel Burnand.
His widow remarried in 1630, and on that occasion she is described as Anne daughter of the late Jean Estoppey, widow of the late Louis Burnand of Chavannes. Since Louis was baptised before the man supposed to be his father, Daniel Burnand, married Marie Dutoit at Syens, it appears most likely that the Daniel Burnand who settled at Chavannes was not the one who married Marie. Rather, he would have to be either Daniel son of Claude Burnand who married Fran�oise Dutoit, which would be completely at variance with the published genealogy, or else the son of the Daniel son of Jean Balthazard Burnand who was baptised at Moudon in 1570.
