The following is a transcription from the Register of Baptisms, Parish of Peterhead, 1833-1854, Page 139, "Dec'r 29th (1839) James Cheyne (580) Mason in Peterhead had a daughter, born 20th Dec'r, baptized and named Margaret (623), before congregation of the East Church.”.1
Margaret Chyne, James Chyne, Margret Chyne, George Chyne, Peter Beaton and John Beaton were listed as in the household of James Chyne on the 1841 Scotland Census, at Kirk Street, in Peterhead, Peterhead Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. She was his daughter, age 1 and born in Aberdeenshire.2

Margaret Cheyne was listed on the marriage record as a 23 year old spinster, residing at Invernettie, Peterhead Parish. A James Cheyne witnessed the marriage, he was probably (995) a cousin. Her brother James was in New Zealand. Her parents were confirmed to have been as recorded herein.5
