     James Beaton Cheyne was baptized in accordance with the procedures of the Church of Scotland, 8 October 1838, in Peterhead Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. The following is a transcription from the Register of Baptisms, Parish of Peterhead, 1833-1854, Page 102, "Oct'r 8th (1838) James Cheyne (580), Mason in Peterhead had a Son baptized named James Beaton (622) before Peter Beaton (1343) and John Copland (549).”.1

James Beaton Cheyne married Eleanor Watson 11 December 1860, in accordance with the procedures of the Free Church of Scotland, at 11 Kirkton Street, in Peterhead, Peterhead Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. James Cheyne was listed on the marriage record as a 22 year old, bachelor and seaman, residing in Peterhead, Peterhead Parish. Another James Cheyne was a witness to the marriage, possibly his father (580). His parents were confirmed to have been as recorded herein.4

James was a witness at the marriage of Alexander Will and his sister, Christina Cheyne, on 19 June 1869 at King Street, at Peterhead, Peterhead Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland; Church of Scotland.5
