WILLIAM A. BRYANT, Hardyville, Ky., was born July 20, 1833, in
Cumberland County, Ky., whence he removed in his twentieth year
to Hart County, where, with
the exception of one year spent in Illinois, he has since
resided.
His father, Jesse Bryant, was born about 1795 in Henry County,
Va. When a young
man he removed to Kentucky and located in Cumberland County. He
was a farmer and magistrate, besides which he followed coopering
at intervals. He was of English descent, and married, about
1817, Sarah, daughter of Langston and Milley (Nunn) Pace, of
Cumberland County. From this union sprang seven sons and three
daughters, who grew up, and William A. Is the seventh child.
He married, October 18, 1857, Ann, daughter of Jordan and Ruth
(Tinsley) Owen of Hart County. To them have been born Langston
(deceased), Mollie (White), Robert and Charley.
Mr. Bryant began life as a farmer, and by industry ht became the
owner of 200 aces of fine land. He was a member of Company I,
Twenty-first Kentucky, with which he served as first lieutenant
seven or eight months, after which he served as duty
sergeant of the Eleventh Cavalry over three years; he is a
believer in the doctrines of the Christian Church, a member of
the Masonic and Odd Fellows fraternities and in politics a
stanch and unswerving Republican.
