"Rev. John Sawyer Arbuthnot, father of William Collinsworth Arbuthnot, was a Methodist circuit rider. He preached at Hammond and Pipkin Chapel, along with two other Methodist ministers, David Pipes and Barnabas Pipkin. They traveled on horseback with their Bibles and hymn books in their saddlebags to preach in remote areas, to officiate at marriages, funerals, and christenings".
1860 census: Rev. D. Pipes, planter and minister born in Mississippi, age 60.
Wife Elizabeth (WARNER) and son Isaac, 20 years old.

"David was a Methodist Minister and moved with some of his family to Texas in 1876. He married Sarah Holmes February 2, 1823 in Adams Co., Mississippi; married Minerva Flynn on April 12, 1830 in East Feliciana Parish, Louisiana; married Elizabeth Browning Warner on November 29, 1832 in Louisiana.
His first wife, Sarah Holmes was a sister to his brother Lewis's wife Nancy Holmes. Sarah Holmes died between 1828 and 1830.
The three known children of David3 Pipes and Sarah Holmes were as follows:
i. Mary4 Pipes was born on December 9, 1823 in Mississippi. d.s.p. She died on November 23, 1844 at age 20.
ii. John Holmes Pipes, born February 3, 1827 in Adams Co., Mississippi; married Catherine Kemp.
iii. Sara E. Pipes was born on April 29, 1829 in Adams Co., Mississippi. She married Reverend James H. Merrill on March 24, 1826 in East Feliciana Parish, Louisiana. She died on March 28, 1895 in St. Charles Parish, Louisiana, at age 65.

2nd wife Minerva Flynn died on October 12, 1831 in Mississippi. There were no children born to David Pipes and Minerva Flynn.

3rd wife Elizabeth Browning Warner was born on January 19, 1802 in Orangeburg District, South Carolina. She died on February 19, 1880 in Dublin, Texas, at age 78.

The five known children of David3 Pipes and Elizabeth Browning Warner all born in Clinton, E. Feliciana Parish, Louisiana, were as follows:
i. Minerva Ann4 Pipes165,166,167 was born on October 3, 1833.168 She died on August 20, 1840 in Clinton, Louisiana, at age 6.
ii. David Pipes, Jr was born on October 1, 1835. He died on August 14, 1843 in Clinton, Louisiana, at age 7.
iii. Elizabeth Wall Pipes was born on March 5, 1837. She died on August 12, 1843 in Clinton, Louisiana, at age 6.
iv. Thomas Warner Pipes was born on October 22, 1838. He died on August 17, 1847 in Clinton, Louisiana, at age 8.
v. Isaac Thomas Pipes, born July 22, 1840; married Louisiana Stone.
