This was the Old McCants burying ground of Wm McCants and his
step dau Elizabeth Ladson, wife of Hugh Campbell.
These stones were removed to Old Burnt Church in 1953 by Mrs.
Pauline McCants Beckham, nearest of kin, and descendant of Wm.
McCants and Mrs. Elizabeth Campbell, and placed in the McCants
family lot there to preserve them to posterity.

From "Crawford W. Long" by Fances Long Taylor, found in Carnegie
Library, Atlanta, GA, "Samuel Long, his son James (wife: Ann
Williamson) and James Jr. came from Pennsylvania and settled in
Madison County, GA in 1788. They spent one year in Abbeville,
SC, raised a crop, after learning of hostile Creek Indian raids
on white settlements in GA, but came on to Madison County in
1788 where they were in the flour milling business."

Long, Sr. of Ulster, Ireland came to America with his four sons,
Rueben, Andrew, Samuel, and James and settled in Lancaster, PA
in 1762. Spouse Unknown.
