NOT PROVEN! No documentation has been found that the given name of the Mr. Strong who m. Anne Stanley was "Martin". This is a conclusion drawn by using a process of elimination and logical analysis by Robert T. Strong, Jr.

The conclusion is supported by a Stanley genealogy pub in 1931 by three direct Stanley descendants and the source of their data has not been discovered.

John Strong, Jr., was bapt. 1698, St. Peter's Parish, New Kent or James City Co., VA. John Strong [Jr.?], who d. 1751 or earlier, St. Martin's Parish, Hanover Co., VA, was likely the same person. Mary Strong of Hanover and Goochland Co., VA, prob. widow of John Strong, d. ca. 1787, Goochland Co., VA. . Martin Strong, probable son of John Strong [Jr.?], d. ca. 1780, prob. Hanover Co., VA. Ann Stanley Strong, who resided Goochland Co., VA, 1781-1804, was the probable widow of Martin Strong. E-mail Robert T. (Bob) Strong, Jr. [email protected] [S264]

Notes

CONFLICT i Parents: "He was the son of Nicholas Ware and Mary Thompson born in VA. Rev War Soldier and 5th generation descendant of Robert Ware, who brought the name to the Virginia Colony. After serving in Virginia Units in the Rev. War he joined his Brothers, in Edgefield SC, Nicholas, Capt. Robert and Lt. James Ware.
"Some sources indicate that his father was Edward Ware who, according to his will, was married to Lettis or Letice Powell. Check of Edward Ware and Sarah Thurnond's marriage application indicates the use of Junior at least three times. In the papers filed by Elisha Ware (his son), for the settlement of the estate of Edward Ware, there is the use of Junior to identify the will being probated. If this is true, Edward would be his father rather than Nicholas III as some presumed."

He Enlisted Jun 1778 under Captain James Higginbotham, again in August 1778 as a Sergeant, and again in 1780 under Captain Franklin and Captain Higginbotham. In Jun of 1781 he was a 2nd LT under Captain John Loving. He was granted a pension in 1833, while living in Madison Co. GA at age 72 where he had moved from VA in 1789 with his family and that of his brother James Ware.

His Will was signed 8 Dec 1837, and proved 23 Nov 1838 in Madison Co. GA. He left bequests to his "eldest son" Bennett Ware; daughter Lettice Ware; daughter Judith Higginbotham; sons Philip and Henry Ware; daughter Elizabeth Long; daughter Mary Hobson; daughter Sarah Borum; daughter Ann Higginbotham; and son Elisha Ware to have the home place and land if he pays his sisters Lettice Ware, Elizebeth Long, Mary Hobson, Sarah Borum and Gincy Strickland $50 each. The daughters were to receive a land grant won by Edward Ware in Wayne Co. GA. To receive a share of the residue was son Henry Ware's "legal representatives". Executors were James Long, Philip and Elisha Ware, and witnesses were Matthew S. Freeman, Richardson Hancock, and William Meroney.

Edward Ware Family Bible published in Family Puzzlers 85 and 96, in 1959 by Mrs. C. A. Basore of Auburn, AL. Edward & Sally's Children: Born between 1783 and 1800. Bennett, Lettice, Judah (Judith), Philip, Henry, Elizabeth, Mary, Sally, Nancy, Elisha, Jincy, and Edward.

Daughter Elizabeth Ware m. James Long 8 Dec 1813 and they became the parents of Dr. Crawford Williamson Long, discoverer of ether anesthesia."

"p. 950-977. His home was still standing in 1902. "McCall's Roster of Revolutionary Soldiers in Georgia, Vol 11, page 238, From Genealogy Publishing Co.: Edward Ware had Pension Granted to him in 1826 for his services: Enlisted Va. under Capt James Higgnebotham: 1778 under Capt. Rucker, Col Fontain, 1780 Sargeant under Samuel Higgen botham, Capt Dilliard, Col Lynch Rec. Lt. Brevet, but always went by Sargent Ware. Md Sarah, Sally Thurmond, 7 May 1782, Amherst Co. Va., died 3 Nov 1836, Danielsville, Madison, Ga. buried in Cemetery designated in 1996 as Cem # 6 outside Danielsvill, now in middle of cow pasture and in 1996 only Edward Ware stone was left standing, all others had been broken or run into the ground with Cow manure all over them. (Sad Comentary of how we treat our Heros) Anyway. William Alexander Ware, Edward Ware and James Ware were brothers according to McCall Vol 11, page 238 b, Amherst Co. Va. Revolutionary soldiers who wer present at the surrender of Cornwallis at Yorktown, Came to Georgia, William Alexander Ware never married, lived on Lime (or Line Creek), Fayette, Co. Ga, where he died. Edward and James lived Madison Co. Ga. I havent located James grave there but reportedly in Danielsville, with stone honoring him."
