He married Elizabeth O. (or A.) Nesmith, daughter of John
Nesmith, on 5 (or 3) April 1810. Each was given permission to
marry, Benjamin by F. Graves and Elizabeth by John Nesmith,
which permit was recorded with the marriage record, 5 April
1810, Bk. A, p. 227, Wilkinson Co., Miss. Elizabeth's father,
John Nesmith, was a major, a judge, and an elder and charter
member of Bethany Presbyterian Church. Elizabeth Graves and the
Nesmith family retained membership in this church until 1844,
perhaps going to Comite, Miss., as Benjamin had an interest
there then. Elizabeth was born in 1784 in S.C., and died 1850-60
in Amite Co.
Benjamin is not recorded as active either at Bethany or in the
Methodist church of his father, but, when the Comite
Presbyterian Church was organized, Lawrence Boatner, in his
unpublished diary of 1839, mentions that Mr. Benjamin Graves
came collecting for "the church." That it was the Comite
Presbyterian Church seems likely, since Benjamin Graves is
listed as one of the three who were named as a committee to
receive the land and erect the church, in the legal document
recording the grant of land for that church site by H. C.
Lipscomb and his wife.
Benjamin reared the orphaned children of his sons H. S. Graves
and Samuel J. Graves and of his daughter Eliza Wadkins as seen
in the 1850 census, Amite Co., Miss."

"Benjamin Graves (17) was born in 1790 in Ga. (according to the
1850 census, Wilkinson Co., Miss.), and died 6 July 1870 in
Amite Co., Miss. He apparently accompanied his father when he
came to the Louisiana-Mississippi area. He acquired his own land
grants, purchased acreages, and entered into the affairs of the
region, petitioning the government for a post road, and asking
for adjustments in requirements in regard to land payments.
He married Elizabeth O. (or A.) Nesmith, daughter of John
William Nesmith and Elizabeth Brockington, on 5 (or 3) April
1810. Each was given permission to marry, Benjamin by F. Graves
and Elizabeth by John Nesmith, which permit was recorded with
the marriage record, 5 April 1810, Bk. A, p. 227, Wilkinson Co.,
Miss. Elizabeth's father, John Nesmith, was a major, a judge,
and an elder and charter member of Bethany Presbyterian Church.
John was also a sergeant in the Rev. War. Elizabeth Graves and
the Nesmith family retained membership in this church until
1844, perhaps going to Comite, Miss., as Benjamin had an
interest there then. Elizabeth was born in 1784 in S.C., and
died 1850-60 in Amite Co.

Benjamin reared the orphaned children of his sons H. S. Graves
and Samuel J. Graves and of his daughter Eliza Wadkins (see 1850
census, Amite Co., Miss.). (R-2, R-8, R-29)."
