CONFLICT: (DAR has put other wives to this Dudley bef she d)

No idea which Gatewood mentioned in Washington's Diary: "In 1791, General Washington, in his official capacity as president of this new country, made a tour of the southern states, and on his return visited the scenes of some of General Greene's campaigns during the Revolutionary War. The President kept a diary19 of his trip and records that he spent a night in Pittsylvania at Peytonsburg. He wrote that after leaving Guilford (now Greensboro) and traveling all day he came to "one Gatewoods" (near the City of Danville) where he spent the night. "June 4th--Left Mr. Gatewoods about half after 6 o'clock and' between the house and Ferry (Dix's Ferry over the Dan) passed the line which divides the State of Virginia and North Carolina, and dining at one Wilsons 16 miles from the Ferry, lodged at Halifax Old Town." Halifax Old Town was Peytonsburg, which was often called simply Old Town, and here the Father of his country once passed the night in a zzz."
