Notes

Genealogy of Pendleton Family in Edmund Pendleton's Bible, now owned by Colonial Williamsburg, Inc. Isabella daughter of Henry was married to William Gaines by whom she had many children and died long ago. I believe there are descendants of her to the 5th generation: they are numerous and he is still living. died about 1790.

ERROR: source: "Some Prominent Virginia Families" reports Isabella married James Gaines ... and that her sister Mary married William.

Notes

"The Gillilands & McBrayers, who came from Ireland, emigrated from Pennsylvania to North Carolina, South Carolina and the nto Blount Co. AL in 1821. After John Gilliland's death in 1833 they moved to Dekalb County, which at that time was Indian Territory and is now Reece City in Etowah County. They lived just north of Attalla on land which was granted by Pres. James K. Polk to Byers D. Gilliland, a great, great uncle of Porter. Part of this land is still owned by Porter and Ellen. The Gilliland's were instrumental in the organization of Bethany Baptist Church about 1836. Later the Etowah Baptist Association was organized in this same church and included both Cherokee and Dekalb Associations as well as the Etowah Association. The Gilliland's were also active in politics. Pleas Means, a maternal grandfathers was the first tax assessor of Etowah County, serving in that capacity for 10 years." [S1672]
