"Succeeded his father, and was in the expedition made into Scotland in the 26th year of reign of Edward I. He was implicated in the murder of Piers Gaveston (favorite of Edward II), and obtained a pardon in the the 7th year of reign of Edward II. In 1314 he was constituted Governor of the town and cstle of Gloucester. Afterwards he was engaged in the insurrection of Thomas, Earl of Lancaster, against the power of the two Hugh de Spencers. He was compelled, in order to save his left and preserve his estates, to enter into a recognizance to (ae)2000, with one tone of wine. Upon accession of Edward III, however, that obligation was cancelled. Moreover, being Knight Banneret, he became active for the King in military affairs, and there was due him (ae)116-3s-8d for services of himself and his men-at-arms. In the 4th year of the reign of Edward III he was Justice of South Wales, and was summoned to Parliament as a baron, and from that period to the years of 1330-1344 under Edward III. He obtained a grant in fee of the castles and lordships of Blenleveny and Bulkeninas in 1346, and died that same year." [S1922]
