Arne H Trelvik writes 1 May 2004,
"John Simonton was the son of Alexander Simonton (1794-1850) and Hannah Newell (1800-1841). He married Martha Ann Jones in 1862. Wilson, John A., Elizabeth "Libbie" and Thomas were their children as were Lillian Doucette, wife of Thomas J. Doucette and Nancy "Nan" Shank, wife of John Shank. There was one other son, Sylvan Simonton who married Regina ___". Also see obituary from 10 September 1908 Western Star and Civil War Pension Application
